EFESME attended a videoconference organized by its Spanish member, FEPYMA (Spanish lift association), on March 16. Concerning the coronavirus pandemic and measures to be taken in the industry to deal with it, the conference was broken down into four sections: the Italian situation, safety measures by activities, the need for protective equipment and a conclusion. Though focusing on understanding the situation of the industry in Spain, a panel was also dedicated to Italy. FEPYMA Coordinator and representative to EFESME José María Compagni moderated the event, in which more than 100 participants had the opportunity to present their opinions and current difficulties. • Germany’s UVIS Seeing Uptick In Business Due To Coronavirus
Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. Today’s podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com
GERMANY’S UVIS SEEING UPTICK IN BUSINESS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS
UVIS UV-Innovative Solutions GmbH, headquartered in Cologne, Germany, tells ELEVATOR WORLD it is seeing an uptick in business as public-transit systems, shopping malls and others focus on sanitizing public areas, including escalator handrails and elevator cabs, in light of the coronavirus pandemic. “We are very busy and receiving requests from all over the world,” says Katharina Obladen, who runs the company with business partner Tanja Nickel. Originally marketed only to public-transit systems, UVIS’s ESCALITE ultraviolet disinfection modules are now installed in shopping malls, and the company unveiled an antimicrobial coating for elevators at Interlift 2019. Among coronavirus-related ultraviolet-light disinfection developments are a public-transit firm in Shanghai implementing such a system for elevator cabs and buses and a mall in the U.A.E. installing one on its escalator handrails.

  • Sky-High Condo Tower, Sky-High Prices A First In Tijuana
Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. Today’s podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com
SKY-HIGH CONDO TOWER, SKY-HIGH PRICES A FIRST IN TIJUANA
The first residents are set to start moving in in June at the 34-story, 404-ft-tall Sayan Campestre tower, the tallest in Tijuana, Mexico, with prices rarely seen in the local market, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Prices for the 103 condominiums in the tower, developed by Sayan, top out at US$1.35 million. An indication of buyer enthusiasm in a market that has seen numerous towers sprout beginning around 2016, most of the units had been sold by March. In a city with high crime, the property offers 24-hr security and amenities including a residents-only bar and restaurant, a salon, a two-story gym, a private clubhouse, a daycare center and outdoor common areas. The tower overlooks a private golf course, and upper-floor residents can see all the way to San Diego on a clear day.

  • thyssenkrupp Debuts Smart Data Warehouse In India
Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. Today’s podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com
THYSSENKRUPP DEBUTS SMART DATA WAREHOUSE IN INDIA
Following the February inauguration of its first Smart Data Technological Warehouse in Madrid, thyssenkrupp Elevator opened its first such warehouse in Chakan, India, the company announced on March 11. Catering to both domestic and regional markets, including Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, the 10,000-ft2 warehouse supports field requirements, imports and inventory. It has the capacity to handle more than 10,000 orders annually, and will eventually be connected to MAX, installed in more than 120,000 elevators worldwide, to increase inventory planning accuracy. The aim is to ensure “total availability of all spare parts and optimize their logistics through analysis and processing of data collected in real time,” thyssenkrupp Elevator India CEO Manish Mehan said. The system, according to the company, results in a 10% reduction in number of trips by technicians, a 20% reduction in wait times and a reduction in environmental impact due to there being fewer greenhouse gas emissions from logistics activities.
