KONE TO PROVIDE ELEVATORS FOR BOSTON TOWER

KONE has won an order to supply elevators for the Garden Office Tower in Boston — phase three of “The Hub on Causeway” project. The 495-ft-tall, 31-story tower will yield about 627,000 ft2 of usable space. KONE will install 16 elevators in the tower, in addition to the 15 elevators the company already provided for the first two phases.

OTIS INDIA RECEIVES INNOVATION, SUPPLY-CHAIN AWARDS

Otis Elevator India recently received awards for innovation and supply-chain excellence. On September 25, Sridar Rajagopal, director of sales and marketing, strategy and mergers and acquisitions, accepted the “IoT Innovation Award” from Express Computer at the Internet of Things (IoT) Innovation Conclave in Greater Noida, India. "With IoT services like Otis ONETM, the possibilities are immense and will offer a whole set of services not yet possible," he said. On the same day, Otis' Bengaluru factory was named second runner up in the “Excellence in Supply Chain — Large Enterprises” category at the Eighth Annual Manufacturing Today Conference & Awards 2019 in Mumbai. Fifty large manufacturers submitted nominations for the award, which recognizes operations efficiency and customer satisfaction.

THYSSENKRUPP TOP-50 TOWERS LIST FOR CTBUH 50TH ANNIVERSARY

thyssenkrupp released its Top-50 Buildings List in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s (CTBUH) Annual Conference, being held through October 30 at the World Congress Center in Chicago. During the event, MULTI CEO Michael Cesarz and Head of the Research & Innovation Center Markus Jetter planned to discuss “The Third Dimension of People Transportation” and “Lift and the City: How Elevators Change and Reinvent the Shape of Cities,” respectively. thyssenkrupp states it has “played an instrumental role in creating elevator systems that have empowered architects and developers to create awe-inspiring buildings,” providing as examples the 71 elevators — including the fastest in the Western Hemisphere — and 12 escalators at the 1,776-ft-tall One World Trade Center in NYC, and the more than 40 TWIN elevator systems, which feature two cars operating independently in one shaft, that will be in operation in NYC’s Hudson Yards by 2022. Observing that MULTI was honored with CTBUH’s Innovation Award at last year’s conference, thyssenkrupp says its vertical-transportation equipment serves many skyscrapers throughout North America, including 181 Fremont in San Francisco; Stantec Tower in Edmonton, Canada; and Duke Energy Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

U.K.’S PICKERINGS LIFTS EXPANDS LEADERSHIP TEAM

PERMITS FILED FOR 30-STORY TOWER ON NYC’S LOWER EAST SIDE

Permits have been filed for a 30-story mixed-use building at 232 East Broadway in Manhattan, NYC. Round Square Development is the owner listed on the applications for the 333-ft-tall development, New York YIMBY reports. The steel-based structure will have 75,473 ft2 of residential space comprising 54 residences. Plans also include a cellar and a 30-ft-long rear yard.

GROUND BROKEN ON 38-STORY JERSEY CITY RESIDENTIAL TOWER

Ground has been broken on the 38-story, primarily residential 351 Marin Boulevard in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey, New York YIMBY reports. Designed by Hollwich Kushner in partnership with HLW International, the property will offer 507 residential units, 8,000 ft2 of commercial space, approximately 200 parking spots and a 4,500-ft2 public plaza. Scheduled for delivery in 2021, it is being developed by KRE Group and Northwestern Mutual and is within close proximity of the Grove Street PATH station. Renderings show a sculptural, faceted podium and a freestanding pavilion that is part of a pedestrian plaza between First and Bay streets.

THYSSENKRUPP ELEVATOR PROJECT WINS AWARD IN DENVER

A project involving the addition of a 1,125-ft2 thyssenkrupp elevator to the Franklin Medical Office Building in Denver was recently honored with the Merit Small Project award by ENR Mountain States for projects under US$10 million, ENR Mountain States reports. Part of Kaiser Permanente’s 20th Avenue Medical Campus, the building has been under renovation for more than 20 years. The most recent challenge the Franklin building faced was that its three elevators were unable to keep up with demand and inadequate to hold stretchers. To address these shortfalls and make way for the new thyssenkrupp elevator, general contractor Adolfson & Peterson craned a partially cantilevered foundation into place, extended the elevator lobby floor slabs and moved an exterior wall to create new elevator lobbies. The lead design firm was David Partnership Architects.

THYSSENKRUPP ROBOT/ELEVATOR INTERFACE SEEING SUCCESS

Successful pilot projects involving thyssenkrupp Elevator North America's newly launched robot/elevator interface have been completed at hotels and hospitals across the U.S. thyssenkrupp said it partnered with leading robot manufacturers on the projects, the locations of which are being kept under wraps. Enabled through thyssenkrupp's TAC controllers, the wireless interface "permits robots to act like human passengers, placing a call for an elevator via WiFi or 4G LTE, selecting a floor and then exiting the elevator upon reaching its destination." The robots can move freely throughout multistory buildings, and, according to thyssenkrupp, promise to enhance efficiency and save on labor costs. Hotels can use the robots for room service, while hospitals can use them for deliveries to and from pharmacies, patient rooms and other locations. Citing MarketsandMarketsTM, thyssenkrupp says the delivery-robot market is projected to grow from US$11.9 million in 2018 to US$34 million in 2024.
