There is nothing like the mad rush of school mornings that will frazzle any busy moms day.

What if we could take a little off our plate by getting organized the quick and dirty way for school lunches.

Not Pinterest Perfect!

A huge help in the kitchen would be to NOT make our kid's school lunches but to have them do it themselves.

It will be training and teaching.

It will be messy and flops.

It will be successful and independent decision making kids that we will train.

Thinking of this as step one and a precursor to doing their own laundry to cooking food to moving out and being successful adults!

Morning routine and getting out the door is the number one thing that is most stressful about our elementary kids' school day.

How can we get more off our plate when there is so much to do. How about ... by teaching the kids to do things for themselves.

This step, I believe, helps the morning chaos but more importantly, it teaches our kids the skillset that they need in order to become grown full functioning adults in society.

Teaching our kids independence in getting ready for school is messy and hard to see the boundaries lines of when to step in and teach and when to step back and let them try.

But kids with their independence have the chance to be responsible to fail and learn and grow.

With independence, they are given the power to choose what is right for themselves. And no! we are not talking serious life-altering independence (i.e. like if they can take the car for a spin) but yes! let them chose between an apple and banana for lunch even though you know they hate bananas.

This is fantastic practice for the future 17-year-old version of son or daughter that is right around the corner.

Let's jump into independent actions our kids can take for school routine.

And yep, I advocate pack-your-own-lunches, for kids ;)

Making goals for the new school year is what we are talking about today.

Goals make us aim for a life that we want instead of life just happening at us. And September is the perfect time to reset goals and have a fresh start.

What do you want the new upcoming school year to look like?

What do you want to do and accomplish this new school year?

What do you NOT want to do?

What about your kids?

What do you want them to accomplish?

Not that they have to live up to high academic exceptions and become a grade A+ student.

But that you and the kids have a school goal to aim for. i.e. to read with my Grade 2er most school nights before bed.
