Public comment during government meetings offers people the opportunity to address their elected representatives. During Elk Grove city council meetings, speakers are given three minutes to address their thoughts.

Speakers often bring up problems they might be having with city services, law enforcement encounters, or ongoing issues.

A group of people who have been speaking repeatedly for the last several months during public comment repeatedly in opposition to Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen upped the ante during the March 10 meeting.

In its 20 years as a city, the Elk Grove City Council has held hundreds of meetings. Many were routine, while several were contentious.

But in the last dozen or so years, maybe the most bizarre proceedings happened seven years ago in February 2014. What was unique about this meeting was that on its surface it was routine, but within a few days of its conclusion, things changed.

The late January 2021 storms in Sacramento continues to have political implications, Particularly for Sacramento mayor Darrel Steinberg.

One of the effects has been several actions launched against Steinberg by the Sacramento Homeless Union. Earlier this week, the Union called on Steinberg to resign following the lack of shelter provided during the storm that resulted in the deaths of several unhoused individuals.

After Steinberg did not respond to their demands, today the group said it will launch a recall effort against Steinberg, who is in his second term as Sacramento mayor.

On Thursday, February 4 a zoom conference was held by the union outlining their plans to launch the recall of Steinberg.

As they have for several months, a group of people speaking during the Elk Grove city council meeting have pointedly criticized Mayor Bobbie Singh Allen.
