However, OpenAI and Microsoft have dismissed the demand as baseless harassment, asserting that Musk’s financial experts are using unreliable calculations to justify the payout.

Musk contends that OpenAI abandoned its original mission by transitioning from a non-profit startup into a commercial powerhouse. A federal judge has ruled that a jury trial will address these allegations, with proceedings scheduled to begin in April 2026.

This high-stakes legal battle highlights the growing tension between the founders of artificial intelligence and the commercial entities they helped create.
