Elven Hymn
The SunThe splendid eyeOf all our heavensDives from the day,
And leavesThe dozing sky,Spangled with fireflies,Deepening in gray.
Now Sleep,Our oldest friend,Lulls in the treesAnd callsUs in.
The LeavesGive off cold fire,They blaze into ashAt the end of the year.
And birdsCoast on the winds,And wheel to the NorthWhen Autumn ends.
The day grows dark,The seasons bare,But weAwait the sun'sGreen fire uponThe trees.
The windDives through the days.By season, by moonGreat kingdoms arise.
The breathOf firefly, of bird,Of trees, of mankindFades in a word.
Now Sleep,Our oldest friend,Lulls in the treesAnd callsUs in.
The Age,The thousand livesOf men and their storiesGo to their graves.
But We,The people longIn poem and gloryFade from the song.
