    Michael Cockrell’s public service career has included law enforcement, water conservation enforcement, and emergency management. After 35-years at San Joaquin County’s Office of Emergency Services (OES), he retired as Director in December 2017. His OES experience between 1982-2017 included a wide range of emergencies and disasters such as floods, earthquake recovery, mass-casualty incidents, train derailments, hazardous materials releases, droughts, extreme heat and cold events. His education includes Associate and Bachelor degrees in Social Science, concentrating in Administration of Justice, and, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. He has also completed many continued-education courses on administration and emergency management.

    Tom Henkey, has more than 8 years of experience in the emergency management field. Tom is responsible for implementing detailed risk and vulnerability assessments, as well as creating site-specific emergency operations plans. He composes emergency quick-reference guides and specialized training materials to provide clients with security references and assure their that they are prepared for handling an emergency situation.
    Prior to joining Titan, Tom was a Senior Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Chicago, where he was responsible for disaster planning, physical-security, infrastructure, transportation, and antiterrorism analysis. He also served as the Director of Protection Services for the Art Institute of Chicago, ensuring the safety of more than 1.5 million annual visitors and a multi-billion dollar art collection. Tom is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), a Certified Institutional Protection Manager (CIPM II), and holds undergraduate degrees from St. Louis University and a Master’s Degree in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University. He is the author of Urban Emergency Management, a textbook/handbook published by Elsevier in 2017. Tom’s emergency management skills have been influential in keeping Titan clients and employees prepared for emergency situations.

    Brian is the visionary behind conscious humanity inc., who was born to be an entrepreneur. His passion for business led him to the university of Florida to learn business administration and quickly set him on a path which would see him start five successful companies. He enjoyed an outstanding career in the investment and finance industry, serving clients in public and private equity, real estate and mortgage, and teaching and advising investment strategies at the state and federal level. A compassionate humanitarian at heart, Brian longed to do more with his time and abilities than simply turn a profit. As a result, he cultivated a significantly important niche as he worked on the documentary entitled light in the darkness as its business manager and began to formulate the business model to expand his vision of creating documentaries on a broader scale with Kimberly and Shaman motion pictures.     Kimberly is a creative and driving force behind conscious content while attending the university of Wisconsin-La Crosse, she majored in marketing and communications which led her to create and eventually sell a successful communication technology company. By age 25, she followed her heart into the unlikely realm of finance and emotional wellness education, developing and leading trauma recovery wellness retreats in 9 countries around the world. In 2013, Kimberly returned to America to work for a family-owned business leading their marketing and public relations departments. Soon after, Kimberly developed the idea for the award-winning documentary, light in the darkness. She produced the film after building a strong creative relationship with shaman motion pictures. Kimberly introduced the film and the principals of shaman to Brian, who, upon recognizing the exceptional content and quality of production, began to formulate the vision for conscious content. With her educational and experiential backgrounds coming together, she developed and launched the company with a vision of becoming “humanity’s media company”, giving a powerful and compassionate voice to the global community. Kimberly oversees all operations, marketing, distribution, and finances and works in close relationship with partners and investors. She is the proud mother of three amazing sons

    Garrett M. Graff, a distinguished magazine journalist, bestselling historian, and regular TV commentator has spent more than a dozen years covering politics, technology, and national security—helping to explain where we’ve been and where we’re headed.

    Today, he serves as the director of the Aspen Institute’s cybersecurity and technology program, and is a contributor to WIRED, Longreads, and CNN. He’s written for publications from Esquire to the New York Times, and served as the editor of two of Washington’s most prestigious magazines, Washingtonian and POLITICO Magazine, which he helped lead to its first National Magazine Award, the industry’s highest honor.

    Graff is the author of multiple books, including The First Campaign: Globalization, the Web, and the Race for the White House, which examined the role of technology in the 2008 presidential race, and The Threat Matrix: Inside Robert Mueller’s FBI, which traces the history of the FBI’s counterterrorism efforts. His book, Raven Rock, a national bestseller, about the government’s Cold War Doomsday plans, was published in May 2017, and his most recent book, co-authored with John Carlin, examined the rise of cyber threats, Dawn of the Code War: America’s Battle Against Russia, China, and the Rising Global Cyber Threat.

    Inside both journalism and politics, he has a long history as a new media pioneer.     This week we are talking about disaster medicine and public health with Dr. Thomas Kirsch from the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health and a Professor of Military and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

    Dr. Thomas Kirsch is the Director of the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health and a Professor of Military and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is a board-certified emergency physician and expert in disaster management and science, austere medicine and health care management. He comes to NCDMPH from Johns Hopkins University where he was a Professor of Medicine (Emergency Medicine), Public Health (International Health) and Engineering (Civil Engineering).
    Dr. Kirsch has authored over 100 scientific articles, abstracts, and textbook chapters, and co-authored the austere medical textbook, Emergent Field Medicine (VanRooyen-Kirsch). He is a globally recognized teacher who has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on disaster and emergency medicine issues. While at Johns Hopkins he founded and was the Director of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Austere Medicine course and the Disaster Medicine Fellowship. He has also taught masters and doctorate-level courses in the Hopkins School of Public Health and School of Medicine.
    He also has real experience in disasters and humanitarian emergencies, and has responded to events including hurricanes Katrina (2005) and Sandy (2012), the NYC response to the 9-11 terrorist attacks (2001) in the USA. Also to global disasters such as the earthquakes in Haiti (2010), Chile (2010) and New Zealand (2011), the floods in Pakistan (2010) and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines (2013). He has consulted on disaster and humanitarian related issues for organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Defense, Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, the American and Canadian Red Cross, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Pan American Health Organization and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.
    In 2013 he received the inaugural, ‘Disaster Science Award’ from the American College of Emergency Physicians and in 2014 the Clara Barton Award for Leadership from the American Red Cross. He was also recognized as a ‘Hero in Healthcare Fighting Ebola’ by President Obama in a White House ceremony in 2014.
    He received a BA in Fine Arts from Creighton University, his M.D. from the University of Nebraska and M.P.H. from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and then completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at the George Washington-Georgetown Combined Program. He lives with his wife, Celene in Bethesda, Maryland while his two sons attend college. He likes to walk, is an avid backpacker and canyoneer, would like to read more history, and dabbles in photography.

    Daniel T. Alexander is currently the Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Field Operations Directorate. Mr. Alexander is responsible for developing, maintaining, and deploying a disaster workforce that is well trained, educated, and prepared to support disaster survivors and first responders. In his current capacity, Mr. Alexander provides the infrastructure and delivery systems required to ensure the Agency can meet its requirements for National Preparedness in the Mitigation, Response, and Recovery mission areas.
    Prior to his appointment with the Field Operations Directorate, Mr. Alexander was the Director of the National Integration Center within FEMA’s National Preparedness Directorate. He was responsible for the policy and doctrine development and technical assistance provided to support the implementation of the National Preparedness System and the National Incident Management System across the nation. In this role, Mr. Alexander led the development of new national emergency management initiatives, including the rollout of the National Qualification System.
    Mr. Alexander served as the Deputy Director for Operational Coordination and Senior Advisor to the Assistant Administrator in the Field Operations Directorate of FEMA’s Office of Response and Recovery. Here he was responsible for directing all policy development and performance evaluation for FEMA’s disaster field operations activities. He also served as the principal advisor to the Assistant Administrator regarding the Directorate’s management of disaster workforce, field leadership, operational assessments, and federal interagency coordination activities. Prior to that, Mr. Alexander served as an Assistant Director in FEMA’s Office of Federal Disaster Coordination, where he had management responsibilities over the 10 Federal Disaster Recovery Coordinators across the country. Previously, he served as both a Federal Coordinating Officer and Federal Disaster Recovery Coordinator for FEMA Region VIII in Denver, CO, after coming to FEMA in 2011. Before that, Alexander served as the Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security for the City and County of Denver. In this capacity, Alexander managed the City and County’s emergency management program, homeland security grant initiatives, including the Urban Area Security Initiative. Alexander was appointed as the Vice-Chair of FEMA Region VIII’s Regional Interagency Steering Committee, the Governor’s Homeland Security Senior Advisory Committee, and was appointed as a subject matter expert to FEMA’s National Integration Center’s Emergency Management Workgroup. He also served on President Obama’s Policy Advisory Committee on the National Security Information Program for State, Local, Tribal, and Private Sector Entities. Before that, Alexander served as the Homeland Security Director for the City of Milwaukee, managing the City’s emergency management and homeland security programs and spent approximately 13 years as a law enforcement officer with the Milwaukee Police Department.
    Mr. Alexander is a graduate of the Executive Leadership Program at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and did some post-graduate work in the Ph.D. Program in Urban Studies. Mr. Alexander has taught extensively in both undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of Criminal Justice, Research Methods, Urban Studies, and Homeland Security.

    Todd is an active member of the International Association of Emergency Managers and is the Region 9 representative on the University and Colleges Caucus.

    Todd De Voe is the Director, Emergency Management for Titan HST and the host of the leading emergency management Show EM Weekly. Todd involvement in Emergency Response, Emergency Management, Education and Volunteer Management started in 1989 when he became a volunteer firefighter in upstate New York. In 1991 Todd joined the United States Navy and became a Hospital Corpsman assigned to the Fleet Marine Force. After his service, Todd served as an emergency medical responder (EMT) in some of the toughest parts of Los Angeles County. In 2005 Todd was hired by the City of Dana Point at the Emergency Services Coordinator.
    In 2008 Todd was asked to be on a steering committee for Coastline Community College, as they developed their emergency management program, later that year Todd was invited to join the faculty.
    Today Todd not only continues to teach for Coastline College, he now is an instructor of Emergency Management at California State University Fullerton for the MPA program and, The University of California Irvine's Certificate of Emergency Management. Todd is a graduate of the National Emergency Management Executive Academy's Cohort VII.

    Todd is an active member of the International Association of Emergency Managers and is the Region 9 representative on the University and Colleges Caucus.

    Daniel P. Aldrich is professor and director of the Security and Resilience Program at Northeastern University. He has published five books, more than fifty peer reviewed articles, and written op-eds for The New York Times, CNN, Asahi Shinbun, along with appearing on popular media outlets such as CNBC, MSNBC, NPR, and HuffPost. His research has been funded by the Fulbright Foundation, the Abe Foundation, and the National Science Foundation, and he has carried out more than five years of fieldwork in Japan, India, Africa, and the Gulf Coast.
