Dawn S. Brown PT, DPT, EdD, OCS is an Assistant Professor at Governors State University (GSU) Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, with over 22 years of clinical and educational experience. She completed a Bachelor of Psychology degree and Master of Physical Therapy degree from Northwestern University, a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Alabama State University, and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Brown earned ABPTS board-certification in orthopedic physical therapy, and uses this content expertise in her andragogy and clinical practice. Her research explores leadership, motivation, and belongingness in physical therapy education and clinical practice, all through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She is a national speaker on leadership, motivation, and belongingness, and holds several leadership positions within the APTA and IPTA to be an agent of transformation within physical therapy to shape a better future for the profession. With regards to physical therapy education, Dr. Brown’s overall goal is to inspire and empower students to become exceptional members of the physical therapy profession by possessing the ability to think critically, be skillful listeners, demonstrate empathy, and have the capacity to interact effectively with socioculturally diverse patients and healthcare providers.
