  • Episode 2: Reasons to Have a Business Mission with Kevin Hostutler of ACGI

(Link referenced in the intro about when a vision statement goes wrong.)

Kevin Hostutler, co-founder and president of ACGI software joins us to talk about the importance of mission to his company.

A a couple of excerpts from his letter to his team after a particularly productive offsite:

“As part of the final report from the management consultants we brought in (Eric and David from Emerge Dynamics), they made some strong recommendations regarding our planning process (not EGR planning, but general business planning). They asked us to align, focus, and execute on business plans, operational plans, strategic plans, marketing plans, etc. A big part of the alignment and focus of those specific plans starts with defining, articulating, and understanding our mission. We also need to know what differentiates us from our competition, in essence: what are our competitive advantages? what do we do better than everyone else? A solid understanding of our strengths that we need to build upon and our weaknesses that we need to shore up also helps shape our path forward. “

“What we do has meaningful purpose. What we do matters! It matters to our customers, it matters to those our customers exist on behalf of. Let us reflect that meaningful purpose in who we are, what we do, and how we do it. Let us reflect that meaningful purpose in our mission statement.”

  • Episode 1: VERITAS Servant Leadership with Eric Wingerter

Join us as we talk with former CEO and CFO Eric Wingerter who has led over 20 M&A transactions.   His servant leadership model VERITAS is transformative.

    From Eric:

“Like trying to steer a ship without a rudder, leading a company without a clearly articulated vision will eventually lead to aimless wanderings or more disastrous results. A clear vision of why your company exists and what your company intends to do to achieve that why will help to ensure alignment throughout the organization and help articulate your mission to your customers and other external stakeholders.

The importance of vision cannot be understated, however, having a set of core values to direct how the company will operate in carrying out its mission is equally important. While the vision sets the course for the company, the core values form the cultural environment that ensures the Company will stay on course.

Staying on course takes both passion and purpose, and the core values of the company must address both of these in order to be effective. I like to say that the “head” and the “heart” of your company must be aligned and your core values set the framework for this alignment. Oftentimes I see companies emphasizing more head values or more heart values. But like a good marriage, balancing the head and the heart values is the key to a lasting, fulfilling and successful venture.”

  • Episode 0: Podcast Intro

Welcome to what we hope will be many episodes of the Emerge Dynamics Podcast.

I’m David Cusimano, your host, and I’m excited to embark on this journey.  This journey of exploring – what makes some companies succeed and others not?

What makes some emerge from their peers and follow a better trajectory?

And of course, on our journey we’ll need to discuss and define some things before we can get tactical.

Things like: how do we define business success? What is the purpose for the business in the first place?

We’ll be sitting with numerous entrepreneurs, owners, and managers of businesses (most of whom have more experience than I do) and learning directly from them.

So before going any deeper I think its important to start with why we decided to make this podcast. With almost all of the work we do, we start with “why.”  And I think this is no exception.

We at Emerge Dynamics have had the privilege of working with businesses across the world and of hearing some amazing stories.  Stories of ingenuity, inspiration, defeat, comeback, surprises, collaboration. And we can learn from their stories, each one has a lesson and each one has something we can take away to use in our own business.

The area of the economy we are covering collectively forms the largest market on the planet and its protagonists often go unnoticed outside of their direct spheres. This is a group of people who collectively organize the resources to improve our communities and create more jobs and feed more families than any other group.

We at Emerge Dynamics are on a mission to improve the lives of business owners and their employees, customers, vendors, and their surrounding community.  We dream of a collaborative ecosystem where all private companies maximize their valuations and become the best versions of themselves.

We think of this podcast as an audio companion to that mission. I hope you find it intriguing, entertaining, and most of all full of meaningful lessons and advice that can be used in your business.
