In Revelation 18, John captures the fall of mighty Babylon with a musical dirge of doom and a paean of praise. The prosperous and self-sufficient Babylon is doomed for destruction. As heaven and earth witness God's justice fall upon Babylon, saints and angels erupt into praise: "Rejoice . . . O heaven, you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!" (Rev 18:20; 19:1–5). But God's justice against Babylon not only calls for our praise, it also calls for our holiness: "Come away from her, . . . or you will be punished with her" (Rev 18:4).
