The Table at the Center of the Cosmos

The Triune God at the Center of the Table

Finding Ourselves at the Table

“The Lord’s supper is the world in miniature; it has cosmic significance. Within it, we find clues to the meaning of all creation and all history, to the nature of God, and into the nature of man, to the mystery of the world, which is Christ. It is not confined to the first day, for its power fills seven. Though the table stands at the center, it’s affects stretch out to the four corners of the Earth.” Peter Leithart

“If we can recognize his presence at work around the table, we will be able to recognize his work in the rest of our lives as well. If we can be trained into its logic of forgiveness, reconciliation, and renewal on Sunday, we can recognize that same logic of his presence in the world. Without such a discipline, however, we will always be tempted to take God‘s work into our own hands, instead of recognizing his work, submitting to, and participating in it. The table on Sunday morning, trains us to discern Christ’s presence in all the others places we eat during the week" David E. Fitch

“Think of Christ as presiding over a banquet at the deep center of our being. His invitation to us is to search out the poor, crippled, blind, and lame aspects of our inner self and bring them to his feast of love. Here he stands ready to embrace them with love and to welcome them into the family of self that he is slowly weaving together in the ongoing transformation of our life.” David Brenner, on Luke 14:15-24
