  • Fruit of the Spirit (Series) Part 5, KINDNESS & GOODNESS

    Sermon Scripture: Titus 3:1-8

Right at the beginning, we must realize that since kindness and goodness (which can also be translated generosity) are fruits of the spirit of God that means that God is kind. And God is good (generous).

When we confess Jesus as Lord, how we act toward others reveals what we we believe about God. It quite literally shows people what kind of God we believe in.  Let’s make sure that we are showing the world the kind and loving God revealed to us in Jesus. The One who is hospitable and honors our humanity; even while calling us to give up lives lived in sin.

  • Fruit of the Spirit (Series) Part 4, PATIENCE

Sermon Scripture: Galations 5:22,23, James 5:7-11

When we hear the term patience, our thoughts are likely going to what our western, English dictionaries would describe patience to be: the ability to accept or tolerate delay or trouble without getting upset. But God’s idea of patience is really much greater. Scripture helps us view patience in regard to interpersonal relationships rather than exclusively waiting through inconvenient situations.

Join us as we look at our sermon scripture this morning, let us consider patience in three ways.

    1. The object of patience (What would God have us be patient for?)
  • The attitude of patience. (While we are undergoing seasons of patience or waiting, how is God working in our hearts?)
  • The activity of patience. (What activity are we to undertake while we are waiting?)

  • Fruit of the Spirit (Series) Part 3, PEACE

Sermon Scripture: Mark 5:34, Luke 8:48, Luke 7:50

This week, we take a look at PEACE, as Fruit of the Spirit. We will investigate:

    1. Peace as the righting of wrongs

    2. Peace as union with God through the forgiveness of sins

    3. Peace as a key marker of the Kingdom of God

    4. Peace as the work of the children of God

Please join us as we consider how PEACE is making it’s way in and through us as we represent Christ and His Kingdom to the world around us.

  • Fruit of the Spirit (Series) Part 2, JOY

    Sermon Scripture: Philippians 3:4b-14

Joy is often one of the most misunderstood of the Fruit of the Spirit, mainly due to the was culture has shaped our understanding of it. Part of the problem is that we look for joy in the wrong places. We have been conditioned to experience joy through achievement, but what happends when we don’t get the promotion, our finances don’t allow us to have the “perfect” house, or any number of other comparative challenges arise.

Scripture teaches us that Joy is to be received, then accepted through Christ, and lasting joy comes when we are able to shift our perspective on joy. Join us as we attempt to relearn the true wonder of joy.

  • Fruit of the Spirit (Series) Part 1, LOVE

    Sermon Scripture: Galatians 5:22-23 (NRSV)

In a nation deeply divided, what we need now more than ever is the clear evidence of God’s Spirit in our lives. Division is so real, even among Christians. Those who disagree on subjects like racism, immigration, violence and gun control can get so nasty toward one another. As Christians, how are we to act in the midst of such division? At the risk of sounding simplistic….we look at the fruit.

Over the next several weeks, we are going to explore the fruit of the Spirit that are listed in Galatians 5. We are doing this first to help us with discernment. We are also exploring the fruit of the spirit as an exercise of introspection - a discernment of self. As we engage with one another and in a world where everything has been politicized (which means everything can be cause for division), how much do our own lives display the fruit of the Spirit?

  • The Church’s Mission (Faith Promise 2020)

If you grew up in the Church, chances are the very word “missions” brings up all kinds of feelings. For many, the feelings will be positive. You remember hearing amazing stories of God’s work around the world and you maintain a passion for God’s work around the world. For others, missions may bring up memories of missionary speakers who brought items from around the world and, while casually interesting, seems so far from removed from your everyday world that you have little interest.

No matter what feeling it may bring up for you, I invite you into a time of discovery this morning. As a Nazarene Church, we have the opportunity and privilege of supporting the work of Nazarene missions. I want to share with you the approach to missions that the Nazarene Church takes and share three commitments of the mission work of the Nazarene Church. At the end, I’ll remind you of how we can financially support that work throughout the year.

Nazarene Missions Centers around: compassion, evangelism, and education.

  • Series: Romans 8 Reflections, Part5 No Condemnation

    Sermon Scripture: Romans 8:1-4 (NRSV)

Here’s the truth: “For God has done what the law could not do by sending his own Son, to deal with sin.” (Romans 8:3) God condemned sin in the flesh of Jesus in order to break to power of sin in our lives! Therefore, we no longer stand condemned under the power of sin! Sin entered into the life and body of Jesus and there its power was exhausted.

Since sin has been condemned, there is no condemnation for us! There is no doubt about God’s verdict about you - he is for you! You don’t have to live in fear of God or judgement - God has made up his mind about you.

So that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us! We are free to live with a new allegiance. Remember that those who bear the ring, must bear the weight of being under the influence of the ring. But to release the ring is to be made free from it’s power!  Freedom from the slavery of sin. Freedom to allegiance to the God of mercy.

  • Series: Romans 8 Reflections, Part 4

    Sermon Scripture: Romans 8:5-9 (NRSV)

Living according to the flesh is like turning in on ourselves and trying to fuel our lives without ever connecting to an outside source. Paul says this will lead to death. Only focusing on yourself without concern for the other will lead to death.

The scriptures say that when we live with a mindset of the Spirit, it leads to life and peace. The life he is talking about is the life we resurrection life we talked about a couple of weeks ago. The peace that comes is union with God.

Join us as we investigate these Kingdom truths.
