Emmaus Road Church | Fort Collins, Colorado

Pastor Andy explores John's final words in this sermon from 1st John 5:18-21.

1 John 4:1-21. John again warns against "false prophets" and encourages the church to "test the spirits." For true children of God, their lives will be centered on the cross and the love of God revealed on the cross. The cross is the ultimate unveiling of God's self-sacrificial love. See this love and being transformed by this love is what motivates us to love others. When we embrace the God of love, it does away with fear!

God is light and in him there is no darkness at all! We are called to "walk in the light." While this is a beautiful image, it isn't clear what it means. For John, walking in the light is obeying God's commands. For the times we don't do that perfectly, Jesus Christ has atoned for our sins. Obeying God's commands = loving one another.
