This evening we discuss the questions, mysteries, and ambiguities of Lag B'Omer. We trace its surprisingly recent history from Meiri, and search for clues to its meaning and origin from Rabbi Pinchas Stolper and Rabbi Yaakov Ruderman. We learn crucial and relevant lessons, while any certainty eludes us.
Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
