In our debut podcast we explore how we as individuals got to our current relationship with our devices. We are completely attached. The phone is the obvious example, and it’s the tip of the iceberg of all the smart devices in our lives. Speakers, thermostats, whole kitchens, cars, homes, work, buildings— there's nothing that remains untouched.
Our devices offer what seem like magical capabilities. In the COVID-19 time of social distancing— or distant socializing— our tech is providing some real solace. But what's been making the news for years is how bad our relationship with technology has become even as we have become ever more intimate with it.
In the podcast we go back to what feels like the beginning: the launch of the iPhone. The source of the magic comes to the surface in the MacWorld Expo keynote delivered in 2007 by Steve Jobs. Years later, an interview with Tim Cook suggests ways we might get the magic back in control.
