As Health Care Workers we rush from an unsuccessful resuscitation filled with what ifs and sadness to the joy of finally discharging a patient who at a point was critically ill. We rush from the never ending ques of out patient clinics to the gasping Covid patients and then finally to the relief of home with food and sleep . This roller-coaster of emotions is never ending and on no sleep , an empty tummy and full bladder it often seems hard to be kind and empathetic to our patients. Without a doubt we want to be but somehow it just seems so difficult at 2 am.
If this sounds familiar to you than this episode is perfect for you. With our guest Ariel we explore what social emotional learning is and how we as health care workers can give empathy to our patients but also our colleagues and more than that how we can give compassion to ourselves.
Ariel Poyurs is the creator of Happy Schools which is teaching senior high school students social emotional learning. He is passionate about teaching children and adults better intrapersonal and interpersonal skills so that we can all have better emotional intelligence and coping skills.
