Sermon Summary

As we conclude our journey in the book of Joshua, we've sought the Lord and embraced the powerful words He speaks over our lives. Each of you carries a unique Joshua call—an assignment to uplift your city, just as Joshua did for Israel. This is not just an end, but the beginning of our City Renewal focus: a commitment to serve others. In the Old Testament, rest follows conflict; in the New Testament, we fight from a place of rest. Thanks to the victory Jesus has won for us, we are empowered to reclaim what is ours. Yet, in our abundance—filled with gifts and blessings—we must remember not to become so enamored with these treasures that we forget the One who bestowed them. Let’s return to abide in God’s presence and immerse ourselves in His Word, for that is where true life flourishes. As we close this chapter, let us make a conscious choice, like Joshua, to follow God above all His gifts.

Saturate. Being Disciples of Jesus in the Everyday Stuff of Life, by Jeff Vanderstelt:

Fill the city with Jesus. This is the vision not just for our church, but for our people. The city is not just a physical location, but a collection of our family members, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. How can you bring Jesus to your city?

Sermon Summary

This week in our City Renewal Series, we explore Joshua 11 and 12. Throughout the book, we have seen Joshua strengthening himself in the Lord, taking on God's assignments, overcoming obstacles, and claiming the Promised Land. The Israelites' war can be viewed in two ways: as an unjust agenda to take land or as God cleansing defilement as part of His long-standing plan. God desires to build His kingdom in your city. Will you embrace your Joshua assignment and lead your city toward its God-designed destiny?

In our reading of Joshua, Israel has defeated Jericho and Ai, but now four kings are uniting to challenge them. God has a plan for His promised land, just as He has for you. It's essential to believe in God, your calling, and His promises. Be cautious about who influences your thoughts and actions, as they can lead to doubt. Remember, God is actively working to save the world—first through Israel, and now through us. Are you in?

For this Baptism Weekend, we are looking at why Jesus Himself received a baptism and how the answer to that question informs us about His redemptive mission on the earth, and why we, as His followers, receive a baptism as well. If Jesus indeed died for us, then who are we to not live for Him.

Joshua 7 is not just a story of Achan and his greed. It parallels our inner world, a picture of how our heart works and the destruction of sin. This chapter demonstrates that while faith pleases God, there is also power in a life of faith. There will be great victories, but the secret brings us back to chapter one.
