We need to be careful about arriving at a conclusion or judgment when we only hear from one side of the story. That might be faster but it's not necessarily justice.

"Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord." This morning we are looking at 1 Cor. 1:26-31 and the paradox of the gospel in which God is most glorified when we are most dependent on him.

We are looking at 1 Peter 5:1-8 this morning. Here we see how important it really is to be a member of a church community and the importance of the role of elders in that church community.

We talk about the trap of "self-sufficiency" a lot because Jesus taught about it in relationship to the pursuit and love of wealth. Today we have two ancient proverbs that contrast and compare our pursuit of safety - through faith or through self-sufficiency.
