These audioguides were made as part of the archive exhibition, “Visualization of the National History: From, by, and for whom?” held at Gudskul in Jakarta, Indonesia, 5-26 October 2019. The exhibition was curated by Hyphen — and held in conjunction with “occupying > modernism” curated by Avianti Armand & Setiadi Sopandi at kopimanyar (Bintaro, Jakarta); as well as “FOMO/JOMO: Hacking modernity’s dualism” curated by Hyphen — at RUBANAH Underground Hub (Menteng, Jakarta)

The exhibition presented archives of Edhi Sunarso, most known as the artist responsible for executing three notable monuments in Jakarta, specifically ordered by the first president Sukarno in the early years of Indonesian independence. These monuments are: Monumen Selamat Datang (the Welcome Monument, 1961); Monumen Pembebasan Papua Barat (West Papua Liberation Monument, 1963); and Monumen Dirgantara (also known as the Pancoran Sculpture, 1970).

Throughout the archive exhibition, Grace Samboh, one of the curators, did several presentation on Edhi Sunarso. These presentations were also part of “(Re)Producing fear and joy,” a seminar series & curatorial workshop also attended by participants of “Articulation and Curation,” one of Gudskul’s subject for the 2019-2020 batch.

These audioguides were made by the subject’s participants as the culmination of the workshop. Participants were invited to tell their own stories, in their own style and interpretation, prompted by the dioramas made by Edhi Sunarso displayed in the National Monument (Monas).
