The leaven of the Pharisees is often a topic of sermons, but not so much the leaven of Herod. What is the leaven of Herod- This is part one of an examination of the effects of evil and corruption within the political narratives of the left and the right, and why the Christian must avoid such entanglements.

Do Christians have the biblical warrant to pronounce curses upon the President of the United States- No. Nor do Christians have the right to pronounce curses upon anyone. It must stop. It is sin. Period.

Why are so many American Christians becoming jumpy about the poilitical left- If so, is the answer to seek truth from the political right- Has American evangelicalism become so obsessed with political concerns that they have adbicated their calling to be peacemakers and ministers of reconciliation and ambassadors for the kingdom of God- Sadly, the answer to this question for a growing number of Christians is a resounding, -Yes--

One of the great blessings of the New Covenant is that God has taken up residence in and among his people. And this means that Christ feeds his sheep by the Spirit through the Word. But 1700 years of church heirarchies and structures have substituted for this glory so that Christians today believe they are dependent upon church leaders to be -fed- and have a -covering.- The result is rampant spiritual immaturity and malnourished Christians. Only when we throw off the usrpers and return to the simplicity and purity of reliance upon the Spirit through the Word will we know true intimacy with the Father and the Son, and heal that which plagues our souls.

For the last 200 years, it has become popular to preach a reductionist version of the gospel, when what is desperately needed is the whole counsel of God. A reductionist gospel is ripped apart from its covenantal and eschatological context, and thus leaves Christians malnourished and suffering from a loss of identity, purpose, and hope. Early in church history there developed church structures with clergy and bulidngs, organizations, and forms that substituted for the power and work of the Holy Spirit and guidance of the Scriptures. In this episode, we hear an exhortation to a living faith of true righteousness and life in the Spirit which is opposed by dead religion, and give a sobering warning of judgment upon that religion.

The New Testament presents a beautiful imagery of Christ as the Groom and the church as his betrothed bride. The custom said that is the duty of the father of the bride to guard her from other suitors until the groom returns. Godly jealousy was appropriate if another man attempted to seduce the bride away from the groom. It was this imagery that Paul used in Corinth, but there was a problem, the bride of Christ was being seduced and she was allowing it to occur. Are you jealous for your devotion to Christ- Do you allow your mind to led astray by political, philosophical, and religious suitors-
