When Saul first came to Jerusalem to meet with the Apostles, they initially didn't trust him because of his past history of persecuting the Church. Barnabas, whose name means “son of encouragement,” advocated for Saul to them. He championed Saul’s calling as an Apostle to the Gentiles, and later sought Saul’s help in the revival at Antioch.
