Christmas reminds us that God is the ultimate gift-giver, sending His son Jesus to us all. Over 700 years before Jesus’ birth, Isaiah foretold that the Messiah would come to bring forgiveness, peace, and healing; our deepest needs as humans. Instead of first looking for self-improvement, scripture teaches that our greatest need is forgiveness of sin and reconciliation with God. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we receive peace with God, peace in this life, and the promise of eternal life. When we receive forgiveness through Jesus, we can be healed and freed from our shame. As healed people, we can extend God’s peace and healing to the world around us.
