A Counterfiet Jesus has been preached for way too long! The consensus of the Gospel of Jesus that Paul preached was Death, Resurrection, and Lordship of Jesus Christ.  And a water down gospel has been causes some christians to be a water downed christian.  I encourage you to go and not just read but to study Romans chapter 6.  

2 Corinthians 11:3-4, Galatians 1:6, Matthew 24:24, 2 Timothy 4:3, 2 Timothy 2:25, Matthew 18:6-7 (tempt) is the greek word "Skandalon".  Its a baited trap!
