  • 19.Burdens become blessings and the funk of a playoff loss with Amber Ivy. (Aubrey HS)

    Playoff 2022 Special

    In this episode, Shawna and Jen visit with Amber Ivy of Aubrey, Texas.  Amber and her family have lived in many places and as a coach's wife and she shares her experience. 

    One event that played a big role in their lives is her husband's battle with Guillain-barré syndrome.  Amber shares about this difficult time but tells us how this burden becomes a blessing and how she fought to keep hope alive.  
    The ladies also discuss:

    • feelings after a playoff loss
    • adjusting to having your husband home after the season is over
    • the grieving process of a loss
    • how it gets harder every year

  • 18. Juggling it all; walking pigs and wearing overalls with Andrea Ables (Hawley HS)

    Playoff 2022 Special

    Shawna and Jen visit with Andrea Ables of Hawley. Andrea's husband Mitch is the HFC/AD at Hawley as well as the HBB coach. Andrea tells the ladies all of the places they have been to get to where they are now. 

    In this episode, Andrea mentions:

    • How hard it is to move from place to place.
    • Transitioning from being at a bigger town/school to a small town/school.
    • Athletes have to play everything in a small school.
    • Sharing athletes and conflicts that come up.

    Both Andrea and her husband Mitch are coaches as well as both of their boys playing multiple sports.   Andrea shares how at times they had to rely on a lot of people to help juggle all the places they had to be. 

    Andrea talks about how they get to know the boys outside of football with chicken spaghetti and Monday Night Football.

    The regular season is over after this week. Half the teams in the state of Texas will be done while the other half move on to the playoffs.
