In this episode, I talk to two of the people working to end gun violence in American schools.
Sari Kaufman survived the school shooting as a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. She was a lead organizer of the March For Our Lives and a co-founder of the MyVote Project, a student-led education organization to educate voters. She is currently a sophomore at Yale University, studying political science.
Shannon Watts founded Mom's Demand Action in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting which killed 26 children and educators in 2012. The organization is a leading force for gun violence prevention, working at the local, state and national levels and with chapters in all 50 states
Our conversation comes on the heels of the most recent US school shooting which took the lives of 4 young people and injured 7 more. The incident, which happened on the last day of November in Oakland County, Michigan was the deadliest event at a US campus since 2018. It was the 32nd such attack since August.
