Fusion technology will save the world… and soon!

That’s according to Nicholas Hawker, CEO of First Light Fusion, who told ELN Reporter Jonny Bairstow about how the clean and unlimited power source will change the world within the next decade.

Talking at the company’s headquarters just outside Oxford, Mr Hawker said the emerging technology will prove vital for decarbonisation and stressed batteries, solar and other renewables won’t be able to scale up enough to reach net zero alone.

He suggested it would provide a new, clean baseload power source and said it would tackle the issue of intermittency brought on by adding more renewables to the grid.

Pavan is a Sustainability Manager at Multiplex Europe and she has been instrumental in enabling the business to start their journey towards net zero carbon. She has done this through her work in setting a science-based target for Multiplex Europe, and supporting other large businesses to follow suit. Pavan has experience in onsite construction environmental management and has integrated the UN Sustainable Development Goals across the company.

Sarah Jolliffe, Energy Manager at BAM Nuttall (part of the Royal BAM Group) with 4 years experience in energy and sustainability focused roles but has 15 years experience in practical aspects of construction and civil engineering having previously worked as a trade operative in residential house building and site engineering. Currently focussed on achieving carbon and waste reductions in the built environment across the whole of the Royal BAM group with a particular focus on wider impacts of scope 3 carbon emissions.
