One of the biggest differences between dogs and cats is what they like to do for fun. Dogs love going for walks, chasing things, and being silly. Cats prefer hanging out at home or sleeping. They don’t appreciate going for walks. In fact, if you put a cat on a leash, you’ll probably find yourself dragging the cat behind you. Oops!

Star Trek is the story of people in the future. They fly around in space on starships and help other people. The original started in 1966. A very cool thing about the original is that the cast was multiracial. This was one of the first times that a TV series had a multiracial cast. It made Star Trek very popular. Also, people like Star Trek because it’s action-packed. There are 726 episodes of the TV series and 13 movies.

By now, you know a lot about the Many Languages, One World (MLOW) contest. We introduced you to the innovative winners and some of their family members, and you heard some of these winners’ wonderful essay ideas. Next week, ELS Educational Services will fly the MLOW winners to New York City! There, they will meet at Hofstra University and participate in the Global Youth Forum. Each winner studied the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and is ready to share their ideas for making a more sustainable future.

Today, the MLOW winners are getting ready for their journey. They already have their United States travel visas and many of their bags are packed. Some winners are bringing special clothes in order to look great when they speak at the United Nations. Other winners are bringing gifts from their countries to share with their new friends. All of them know that they share a common goal, and they are excited to build new relationships.

You probably know someone who doesn’t have many friends. Maybe, this person speaks very loudly, and others think he is yelling. Or perhaps, this person seems really tough and intense. However, he is probably a good person and kind to his friends. He might just seem to be mean or rude but actually have a warm heart. You could say that his bark is worse than his bite.

We use the expression “one’s bark is worse than one’s bite” to describe people who look or act mean but are really nice. In fact, anyone might have a bark that is worse than their bite on some days. Can you remember a day when you were angry? Maybe, you yelled at a friend or said something mean to a stranger. You didn’t want to be so intense, but you felt mad. In this situation, your bark was worse than your bite.

Something tragic happened at the Cincinnati Zoo on May 28, 2016. A three-year-old boy fell into the gorilla pit. Zoo workers then killed a gorilla to save the boy. This event rattled many people, who then started asking questions. How can we stop these kinds of accidents? Are zoos safe? Was it wrong to kill Harambe, the gorilla?

There are two main points of view in this issue. The activists for animal rights think that it is horrible that an animal was killed. They think this is an example of bad parenting, and that the child’s mother should be in trouble for not watching him more carefully. On the other hand, most parents think a child’s life is more important than an animal’s life.

We have introduced you to the 2016 winners of Many Languages, One World (MLOW), and they shared their essay ideas with you. Now, you will meet some friends and family members who inspired these winners. These special people helped give motivation to the MLOW winners. They might have helped them to study the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Or they might have studied with them at an ELS Educational Services school.

All of these friends and family members understand the MLOW winners’ passion for languages. They think it is wonderful that these people will participate in the Global Youth Forum at Hofstra University. They feel excitement for the winners because they will share ideas that can change the world. When they are speaking at the United Nations, the MLOW participants will know that their friends and family believe in them.
