BIV to remember the colors we see in a rainbow. Each letter in the name is a color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. We see these colors when the sun shines through the rain or mist.

There are many different stories about rainbows. In Ireland, people believed there was a pot of gold (and maybe a leprechaun!) at the end of a rainbow. In Eastern Europe, people believed you could change from a man to a woman, or a woman to a man, if you walked under a rainbow. In Italy, the colors of the rainbow were a sign of peace.
