What do you think about when you look at the moon? For some people, it’s a religious symbol. Others learned lunar poems when they were kids. Still other people use the moon to tell seasons or predict the weather.

Amazingly, the moon is something that brings the world together. People around the globe all see the same moon. It’s also something that makes countries compete against each other, like when the US and Russia had the “space race” to see who would make it to the moon first.

To tell the truth, the moon is pretty far away. It’s about 238,900 miles (384,400 km) from Earth. But astronauts have made the trip successfully in space shuttles since 1969. The moon is definitely interesting, but it’s quite expensive to travel there. Living there would require even more excessive costs. Everything would have to be imported from Earth. That’s a long trip!

We live in the age of information. One hundred years ago, if you wanted information about other parts of the world, you would need to write letters or use old books. Wikipedia is a free Internet encyclopedia, written in almost 300 different languages. If you want a fast answer to a question like “How far is the moon from Earth?,” Wikipedia will quickly tell you it is 385,000 km away. Wikipedia is so amazing because it ties together the large majority of human knowledge into one place.

Traveling can be an amazing adventure. It’s always fun to eat new kinds of food, see new places, and meet interesting people. Most people would agree that traveling is great. But some people get nervous about language barriers, and not being able to communicate often leaves everyone confused.

It is important when traveling to at least learn a couple phrases, so that you can convey your basic meaning to people from a different culture. You may not say everything perfectly right, but most people appreciate it when you at least make an attempt.

The number of stars and planets feels infinite, which makes our universe seem like an unfathomable place. But that hasn’t stopped people from dreaming about exploring the night sky. From the beginning of time, we have wanted to learn about and understand outer space.

Body art is trendy with young people, but it’s actually been popular for a long time. Between your parents, your aunts and uncles, or your grandmothers and grandfathers, someone probably has a tattoo. People have been getting tattoos for thousands of years!

A tattoo is drawn with a needle and different colors of ink. It’s important to know exactly what you want your tattoo to look like, because the art will be permanent. It’s just as important to be sure you’ll want it forever and not regret it when you’re older. It’s a big decision to make, for sure.
