(English) Episode 203-McMurray Test Reliability Is All About Timing

Listen Later

This clinical study examines the diagnostic accuracy of six common physical examinations used to identify meniscal tears in the knee.

By evaluating 255 patients in both acute and sub-acute phases, researchers compared clinical results against MRI and arthroscopic findings.

The study highlights that the McMurray test offers the most balanced performance, particularly when paired with the Apley test to improve reliability.

However, findings indicate that no single physical test is definitive on its own, as associated pathologies like cartilage damage can trigger false positives.

Ultimately, the authors conclude that while clinical exams are essential, MRI remains a critical tool for confirming a diagnosis before surgical intervention.
