(English) Episode 219-One Week vs Three Weeks Shoulder Immobilization

Listen Later

This 2025 research study evaluates how different immobilization periods affect recovery following arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Researchers compared patients who kept their shoulders still for one week against those who waited three weeks before starting rehabilitation.

The findings indicate that both groups achieved comparable results regarding pain levels, joint function, and the risk of repeat injury.

While early mobilization initially improved the range of motion for reaching upward, these differences vanished within three months of the procedure.

Ultimately, the authors conclude that clinicians can safely choose either approach based on an individual patient's specific needs.

This study helps clarify a debated topic by suggesting that shorter recovery timelines do not compromise surgical success.
