Miletus: why did philosophy start there?

a)It was in the crossroads between East and West. Ideas flowed through there as well as the goods that changed hands.

b) Traditional ideas interacting with culture led to to basic questions being asked.

What questions were asked?

a)Questions were asked about the basic element or elements that make up the world.

b) Questions about the origin of the universe.

Motive 1: learn how philosophers made sense of their place in life. Learn how they made sense of any individual's place in life.

Motive 2: Learn how philosophers thoughts go beyond the everyday conditions of life. I want to learn how those thoughts relate to injuries I've had, and physical rehab I've completed.

Motive 3: Understanding and have compassion for others that carry unseen physical, emotional, and spiritual injuries.

Goal: Learn how the best philosophers in the world developed their identities.

Partial Motivation 1: I want to understand how I deal with suffering. How did the suffering shape how I see the world? I want to explore and embrace the system that I developed to approach suffering.

Partial Motivation 2: I want to understand how others deal with suffering. I want to understand how is their approach different from mine. I want to understand how they make their strategies work.

Partial Motivation 3: I want to understand how society as a whole absorbs the different approaches of all individuals. How does society keep moving forward. How do we adapt to and adjust to each other?

Big Picture Motivation: Understand myself, others, and the whole and how we fit it all together into one big entity. How do the best philosophers make sense of it all?
