Work-Life Balance:

Max: Welcome to the Speak Your Mind Vlog. I’m Max.

Amy: ... and I’m Amy, and we want you to speak your mind. Today we’re talking about work and life balance.

Max: Is it really possible?

Amy: For me it’s possible, but it’s not easy. I go to school full-time, and I work part-time. And I want to spend some time with my family and friends on the weekend.

Max: Yeah, I know how that is. A lot of people work long hours and weekends too, like doctors, pilots or journalists. It’s hard to make time for hobbies or even a vacation! …but I’m lucky. I have a job with the same hours every week, nine to five. On the weekends, I hang out with my friends, and go to the movies, or play sports. It’s not really hard for me to balance my life.

Amy: I have a busy life and crazy hours. I need 30 hours in my day to do everything. I have 20 hours of class each week, another 20 hours of work, there’s a family picnic on Sunday, and my photography club on Saturday. I love photography!

Max: Well, I’m glad, but we need to get you to relax a little bit, OK? It’s important to work hard and have time for fun, but we all need balance.

Amy: What do you think? Is it possible to have a good work and life balance? Speak your mind.

Typical or Different:

Alex: Welcome to the Speak Your Mind Vlog. I’m Alex.

Sonya: … and I’m Sonya.

Alex: and we want you to speak your mind. Today we have a question for you. Are you typical or different?

Sonya: Alex, are you like all of your friends, or are you different?

Alex: I’m different. I think it’s really fun to be different from most people. For example, a lot of people drive a typical car, but some people prefer to take a different type of transportation, like this.

Sonya: Do you have a typical pet? Most people have a dog or a cat.

Alex: I like dogs and cats, but my pet isn’t typical.

Sonya: What about music? Do you play the piano or the guitar?

Alex: Well, those are typical instruments. I play a different kind of instrument. I’m really good. Listen!

Sonya: I’m not different at all. In fact, I think it’s fun to be the same. My soccer team has a uniform so we all look the same. At work, I wear the same things as all my co-workers.

Alex: Hey, when’s your birthday?

Sonya: February 29th.

Alex: February 29th! That’s different!

Sonya: Now you speak your mind. Are you typical or different?

Food:

Pam: Cooking at home and eating in is great. You can shop at the store, buy the ingredients, and cook healthy food, or make a sandwich at home and save money. But, there are usually dishes to wash.

Martin: Other people prefer to eat out at a restaurant, like me. It’s fun to try different kinds of food.

Pam: But, eating out is sometimes expensive.

Martin: But there aren’t any dishes to wash.

Alex: These boots don’t fit, but returns are easy.

Donna: For your birthday, who prefers a big party? I do. I love to have a big party with my friends and family. Big parties are fun. There are presents, balloons and singing.

John: But some people don’t like big parties, like me. I prefer a small dinner with a few friends. Big parties are sometimes very noisy.

Donna: True … but at parties there’s usually a cake.
