William Ross finds himself in a large room surrounded by strange people. He doesn't know where he is, how he got there, or how long he has been there. A man identifying himself as the coroner tells him that it is an inquest, and immediately he remembers the violent struggle with his sister and brother-in-law. Confident, he tells the coroner and the coroner's jury that there's no doubt it was self defense. It isn't long before Mr. Ross realizes that the inquest is no normal affair

This recording of The Thirty Nine Steps is actually taken from a dress rehearsal, not the production itself - this is for a couple of reasons. Most importantly, the actual recording is of such poor quality that it is a bit of a struggle to follow. Secondly, dress rehearsals for the Mercury Theatre were fairly polished affairs (if they happened at all), and the performances match that of the final production fairly closely.

July 28, 1949 

 As the Christmas season approaches, Friday and Romero receive a call from Utah from the mother of a woman named Juanita Laskey, who tells them that her daughter has stopped writing to her and is calling to report her missing. Friday and Romero must try to bring her home for a Christmas reunion.

Adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1859 novel "A Tale of Two Cities" that tells the story of the French Doctor Manette, his 18-year-long imprisonment in the Bastille in Paris, and his release to live in London with his daughter Lucie whom he had never met. A cop on a stake-out is killed by a shotgun blast from three quick-trigger gunmen in a bar. Friday's boss wants the killers caught before the next sunrise; soon, Friday, Romero, and other members of the LAPD trap the killers in an apartment house.

Audition 3 came about a year and a half later from auditions one and two (March 9, 1951). It's not a full episode. However, if one hears the first two auditions you will understand this story. Yet, each audition has been a little bit different. Here, they experiment with having someone else narrate the story instead of the Marshall (John Dehner as "Mark" Dillon)
