  • What Did Soviet Divers Find Under Lake Baikal?
What Did Soviet Divers Find Under Lake Baikal?

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph investigates one of the strangest alleged military encounters to emerge from the former Soviet Union: the mysterious underwater humanoids of Lake Baikal, Siberia. According to an account that surfaced years later, seven Soviet military divers conducting underwater operations in the summer of 1982 reportedly encountered enormous humanlike figures nearly ten feet tall, wearing tight silver suits and spherical helmets, but no conventional breathing equipment. When the divers allegedly attempted to capture one using a net, an unknown force violently propelled them toward the surface, resulting in severe decompression injuries. Three reportedly died, while four survived with lasting injuries. Joseph examines competing versions of the story, including a critical detail frequently overlooked in modern retellings: the reported incident at Lake Baikal and a subsequent military briefing at Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan, were two separate events.

The investigation follows the account attributed to former Soviet officer Mark Steinberg, who described receiving a warning at Issyk-Kul following the alleged Baikal disaster. Joseph questions why Soviet personnel would attempt to capture unidentified underwater beings during what was supposedly a routine training exercise—and whether the mission may have had another objective from the beginning. The episode then explores Lake Baikal itself, the world's oldest and deepest freshwater lake, examining unusual circular formations photographed in its frozen surface, a reported 1977 submersible encounter involving an intense underwater light, accounts of unidentified submerged objects (USOs), and mysterious glowing orbs. Joseph also looks into the region's ancient folklore, including stories of supernatural beings inhabiting the lake, a fiery dragon said to have created it, and phantom riders reportedly appearing along its fog-covered shores.

But what connects an alleged Cold War military disaster, centuries-old legends, strange underwater phenomena, and the modern Baikal-GVD neutrino observatory? Joseph separates the known geography and scientific research from the more extraordinary claims while presenting his own theory that the Soviet operation may have been a deliberate attempt to capture something already believed to inhabit the lake. Were the divers confronted by an unknown intelligent species, an underwater civilization, something spiritual, or an entirely different phenomenon? More than forty years later, the alleged encounter remains a fascinating mystery—and Joseph argues that the deeper questions may have less to do with what the divers saw and more to do with why they were sent into those waters in the first place.

  • He Heard a Howl at 4 AM—Then It Got Closer!
He Heard a Howl at 4 AM—Then It Got Closer!

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph sits down with Mark Childers of the Cryptid Crew Podcast to explore the experiences that pulled him deeper into the mystery of Bigfoot and Sasquatch. Mark traces his journey back to a remarkable 44-second recording captured near his home in East Central Alabama—an audio clip containing a howl, what sounds like a tree knock or rock clack, another howl, and a powerful roar. Mark says the recording was later reviewed by retired Navy cryptolinguist R. Scott Nelson, who told him he found no evidence of fakery and could not match the sounds to a known forest animal. That recording helped inspire Mark to begin investigating and documenting unexplained encounters for himself.

The conversation expands beyond traditional Bigfoot sightings into the stranger side of the phenomenon. Mark describes witnessing an unexplained white light near Perdido Key, Florida, and later seeing the mysterious Brown Mountain Lights in North Carolina—reddish-white orbs that appeared to move above the forest and disappear before returning. Although Mark still leans toward Bigfoot being a flesh-and-blood creature, years of hearing eyewitness accounts have made that explanation less certain. Joseph and Mark discuss reports of unexplained orbs, disappearing trackways, possible camouflage or “cloaking,” and whether some Sasquatch encounters could involve something more complicated than an undiscovered primate.

Then Mark recounts the experience that brought those questions frighteningly close to home. While camping in the South Mountains of North Carolina, he and another researcher first heard a distant sustained howl. At 4:01 a.m., another powerful howl erupted from the ridgeline behind their tents. Roughly fifteen minutes later, Mark says an extraordinarily deep, guttural growl came from only 15 to 20 yards away near the creek behind them. His camping partner later reported hearing what sounded like chest-thumping nearby. Neither man claims to know what was outside their tents, but both decided it was time to leave. Was it a Bigfoot warning them away, an unknown predator, or something stranger moving through the Appalachian wilderness?

  • Are Wild Men Actually Bigfoot Human Hybrids
Are Wild Men Actually Bigfoot Human Hybrids

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph is joined by Lisa from the Cryptid Women’s Society to investigate a strange theory surrounding the Tennessee Wildman: could some “wild men” reported across history represent something different from Bigfoot or Sasquatch—and could old stories of human–cryptid offspring have anything to do with it? The discussion begins with an 1871 Tennessee newspaper account describing a muscular, hair-covered wild man said to move with extraordinary speed, leap fences, chase women, and behave very differently from the larger Bigfoot creatures commonly described in modern sightings. Lisa then compares those reports with traditions from New Zealand involving the Moehau, along with similar wild-man and hairy-hominid accounts from Australia and across the South Pacific.

From there, Joseph and Lisa explore stories from multiple cultures involving women allegedly being abducted by hairy humanoid beings, including accounts associated with Indigenous traditions in North America, Himalayan folklore, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Australia, and the Pacific Northwest. They also revisit the well-known story attributed to Albert Ostman-era Bigfoot lore and accounts such as Seraphine Long, while asking whether some legends may describe separate classes of creatures rather than one universal “Bigfoot.” These are historical claims, oral traditions, and eyewitness stories—not established proof of human–Bigfoot hybridization—but their similarities across distant cultures raise questions about why the same themes continue to appear.

The episode ultimately asks whether the Tennessee Wildman, New Zealand’s wild-man traditions, and other smaller hairy humanoid reports could represent something distinct from the towering Sasquatch of modern cryptozoology. Joseph and Lisa compare reported differences in size, behavior, footprints, aggression, vocalizations, and interactions with humans while considering biological, folkloric, and hybrid theories. Are wild men simply another form of Bigfoot, remnants of an unknown hominid population, distorted folklore—or evidence of something even stranger hiding behind centuries of cryptid stories?

  • What Shook His Son’s Deer Blind? Bigfoot Encounter
What Shook His Son’s Deer Blind? Bigfoot Encounter

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph sits down with Ashley McPhaul, author of Lower Alabama Bigfoot: No Longer a Myth, to explore a series of alleged Bigfoot encounters centered around rural southern Alabama. Ashley traces his interest back through generations of local stories before recounting the experience that changed everything: his 12-year-old son Tristan was hunting alone when something began breaking limbs behind his deer blind, making a strange crunching sound, and then violently shaking the entire structure. Tristan fled on foot and says he looked back to see a massive, dark, hairy figure standing over the blind—tall enough for its head to rise above the roof. Ashley later found unusual tracks and broken limbs high above the ground along the creature’s reported path.

That encounter was only the beginning. Ashley describes hearing an enormous scream in the woods powerful enough to vibrate through his chest, experiencing what Bigfoot researchers call a “bull rush,” finding animals with unusual injuries, and hearing similar reports from hunters who had never heard his own stories. The conversation also reaches into the history and folklore of Lower Alabama, including Burnt Corn, Pine Orchard, Native American mounds, and reports concentrated within only a few miles of one another. Joseph and Ashley question whether these accounts point toward an undiscovered flesh-and-blood creature, an unusually intelligent predator, or something that does not fit comfortably within conventional ideas about primates or wildlife.

The mystery deepens when Ashley describes unexplained lights and orbs appearing in areas connected to other strange activity, including two blue lights moving together near a feeder and later red eyes seen high among the trees. He also recounts electronic equipment unexpectedly failing during a hog hunt while normally fearless dogs refused to enter a swamp. Ashley does not claim to know what these experiences mean, and Joseph connects them to similar reports involving Bigfoot, Sasquatch, unexplained orbs, and paranormal phenomena from other parts of North America. If the witnesses across Lower Alabama are describing something real, the question may no longer be whether Bigfoot exists—but what exactly are people encountering in these woods?

  • Why Are Black Triangles Returning To The Skies?
Why Are Black Triangles Returning To The Skies?

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph investigates the strange wave of UFO and UAP sightings reported around Wytheville, Virginia, in 1987, where law-enforcement officers, local residents, pilots, and radio personality Danny Gordon reportedly described enormous silent objects moving through the night sky. The reports included the now-famous black triangle UFO, along with boomerang-shaped, egg-shaped, disc-like, T-shaped, and other unusual craft. Over several months, hundreds of reports reportedly poured into the area, turning a quiet Appalachian community into the center of one of the more unusual mass UFO sighting stories Joseph has encountered.

Joseph follows Gordon’s reported investigation as the sightings continued, including claims of massive low-flying objects, unusual lights, photographs and video, anonymous warnings, suspected surveillance, and mysterious visitors allegedly asking questions about the case. The episode also examines reports of glowing orbs appearing around some of the sightings—phenomena Joseph connects to other UFO, paranormal, and cryptid cases he has previously investigated. From Wytheville’s Appalachian terrain and cave systems to the possibility of secret military technology, Joseph weighs several explanations while emphasizing where the evidence becomes uncertain and where eyewitness claims remain difficult to verify.

The mystery becomes even more relevant when Joseph turns to modern triangle UFO and UAP reports discussed in recently released records and asks whether the same type of craft described nearly forty years ago may still be appearing today. Joseph argues that some black triangles could represent advanced human technology while questioning whether every object reported during the Wytheville wave fits that explanation. Are these craft experimental military platforms, something operating alongside human technology, or part of a phenomenon that has been here far longer than we realize? The episode does not claim a definitive answer—but it raises the possibility that the skies over Wytheville may have revealed something we still do not fully understand.

  • A Cop’s Theory on What Is Really Out There!
A Cop’s Theory on What Is Really Out There!

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph sits down with Brandon Gayhart, creator of The Supernatural Sleuth and a law-enforcement professional with nearly 26 years of experience, to explore what decades of police work and paranormal investigation have led him to believe about ghosts, cryptids, and the strange activity reported throughout Appalachia. Brandon recounts hearing what sounded like a crowded party inside an empty college building, witnessing unexplained activity while working night shifts, and watching a close friend experience what he believes may have been spiritual oppression. For Brandon, those encounters changed the question from whether paranormal activity exists to what may actually be behind it.

The conversation moves from haunted buildings and unexplained orbs into Bigfoot, Appalachian folklore, cryptids, caves, and the warnings passed down through generations in the Appalachian Mountains. Brandon explains why he remains open to the possibility of a flesh-and-blood Bigfoot while also questioning reports involving creatures that seem to disappear, move unnaturally, or appear alongside other unexplained phenomena. His theory is that some encounters attributed to ghosts or cryptids may instead involve deceptive spiritual entities—an interpretation shaped heavily by his Christian faith and his belief that witnesses should be cautious about assuming every paranormal presence is the spirit of someone who died.

Brandon also discusses the dangers of paranormal investigation, alleged spiritual attachments, the instinctive sense of dread people sometimes experience in certain locations, and his visit to the abandoned Lake Shawnee Amusement Park in West Virginia. He closes by revisiting the encounter that began when he was only four years old: a strangely dressed man silently watching him from the staircase of his grandmother’s home. Whether these experiences are paranormal, psychological, biological, spiritual, or something we still do not understand, the episode asks a larger question—what if the different mysteries people report are not as separate as they appear?

  • She Saw an 8-Foot Creature With Red Eyes in California!
She Saw an 8-Foot Creature With Red Eyes in California!

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph sits down with Taylor Thompson to revisit the terrifying encounter that was later featured on MonsterQuest. As a teenager living near Wrightwood, California, Taylor says she and several other kids were walking a remote mountain road one winter night when something came racing up the side of the mountain on all fours. According to her account, the figure then stood upright, revealing an estimated eight-and-a-half-foot-tall black humanoid form with unusually long arms, visible muscle definition, and glowing red eyes. Taylor describes an overwhelming sense of dread, the certainty that the creature meant them harm, and the frantic escape back to the Jeep.

The conversation digs into what made the experience so difficult to explain. Taylor and the other witnesses were familiar with the local mountains, wildlife, bears, mountain lions, and the terrain itself, yet she says none of those explanations fit what they saw. Years later, people from Wrightwood reportedly contacted her with eerily similar stories involving a tall black figure with glowing eyes, and Taylor says producers researching her case also uncovered older reports connected to the area. Joseph and Taylor explore possible explanations ranging from an unknown animal to something paranormal, including Taylor’s own comparison to skinwalker stories, while also discussing the strange geography surrounding Wrightwood, nearby caves, military activity, and the unsettling atmosphere she still associates with the region.

Taylor also explains how the encounter stayed with her long after that night, influencing her fear of being alone outdoors and eventually finding its way into her creative work. The episode expands into a wider discussion of cryptids, unexplained entities, the Superstition Mountains, strange lights, and the instinctive feeling witnesses sometimes describe when they believe they are being watched or hunted. Whatever Taylor and the others encountered that night, the central mystery remains unchanged: if six people saw the same impossible figure coming out of the darkness, what exactly was standing on that mountain road?

  • Which Cryptids Are Actually Real (We Have Opinions)
Which Cryptids Are Actually Real? (We Have Opinions)

In this episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph sits down with Natalie Rose of the Midnight Cryptid Club to tackle one of the biggest questions in cryptid research: which creatures might actually be real, and which ones belong more to folklore, hoaxes, or internet mythology? Natalie explains how her film background helped shape the Midnight Cryptid Club and shares the case that first pulled her deeply into cryptid research—the Van Meter Visitor, a strange winged creature reportedly seen by multiple residents of Van Meter, Iowa, in 1903.

From there, Joseph and Natalie compare some of the most famous names in cryptid lore, including Bigfoot, Mothman, the Jersey Devil, the Snallygaster, Wendigo, and Duendes. Natalie explains why she believes some cases deserve serious consideration while others fall apart under scrutiny, and why she separates true cryptids from ghosts, spirits, and purely folkloric beings. The conversation also turns to Bigfoot, unexplained orbs, possible paranormal connections, and the difficulty of separating eyewitness testimony from exaggeration, misinformation, and stories that have grown far beyond their original reports.

So what actually survives the skeptical test? Natalie shares the cryptids she finds most convincing and her personal favorites, while Joseph argues that some unexplained cases remain difficult to dismiss entirely. The result is a wide-ranging conversation about evidence, belief, folklore, biology, and the possibility that a few of the creatures we call legends may still have something real behind them.

  • Is A LEGENDARY Dogman Stalking This Ohio Family?
Is A LEGENDARY Dogman Stalking This Ohio Family?

In this chilling episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph dives into one of the strangest modern Dogman cases on record: the alleged encounters of Brian Tyras and his family in rural Rochester, Ohio. Beginning with the older folklore of lycanthropy, werewolves, wolf-men, witchcraft, bloodline curses, and wolf’s bane, the episode connects centuries of European belief to the modern explosion of Dogman sightings across North America, where witnesses continue to describe upright canine figures, massive hands, German Shepherd-like faces, incredible speed, and a presence that feels both physical and deeply unnatural.

The episode breaks down the full Rochester case from December 2005 through the following summer, including Brian’s first late-night encounter near the railroad tracks, the terrifying howl that sent his mastiff into distress, the moment he abandoned his pistol for an HK-91 rifle, and the shocking sight of a seven-foot reddish Dogman standing near the tree line, pressing down on a branch while staring directly at him. Joseph then follows the strange escalation: massive tracks in the snow with an eight-foot stride, the trail that vanished along the railroad line, Brian’s wife seeing a darker, blood-covered creature near a rural bridge, a second roadside encounter involving a white minivan, and their young son later spotting the same type of being near the gun club pond.

What makes this case so unsettling is what does not fit. Rochester has no major cave system, no national forest, no nearby military installation, no major mountain range, and none of the usual geographic markers that often appear in cryptid reports. Instead, Joseph points to Lorain County’s cemeteries, rural farmland, railroad tracks, Native American guardian lore, and a wider history of Ohio Dogman reports stretching from 1967 to recent encounters near Wellington and Erie County. Was this a flesh-and-blood predator, a shapeshifting guardian tied to old burial grounds, a spiritual entity, or one of the ancient Dogman forms hiding behind centuries of werewolf folklore? If Brian Tyras really saw what he says he saw, then the Dogman may not be just a creature of the deep woods. It may be something older, stranger, and far closer to home than anyone wants to believe.

  • Goblins in Appalachia What Did the Floods Unleash?
Goblins in Appalachia What Did the Floods Unleash?

In this chilling episode of #EnigmaCast, Joseph investigates the strange reports of “flood goblins” allegedly seen in the aftermath of the devastating 2022 Eastern Kentucky floods. What began as stories sent in by viewers about mysterious creatures after Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee led to a deeper trail pointing back to Letcher County, Kentucky, where witnesses described small gray humanoid beings, pointed ears, long fingers, large black eyes, animal-hide clothing, and strange behavior near roads, ditches, tree lines, and flood-damaged hollows.

The episode explores the firsthand accounts gathered after the Kentucky disaster, including a husband and wife who reportedly saw two small beings along Highway 15, Gwen Johnson’s 2020 encounter with a winged elf-like creature near her truck, and Tennessee paramedic Bo Morgan’s disturbing discovery of a dead, Dobby-like figure in a ditch before a second creature allegedly appeared near the woods that night while his radio began producing strange frequencies. Joseph breaks down why these sightings may not have begun with the flood, but why the catastrophic waters may have forced something out of the caves, hollows, and underground spaces of Appalachia.

Are these creatures simply folklore brought back to life by trauma and disaster, or do they connect to older Appalachian legends of Tommy Knockers, moon-eyed people, cave-dwelling beings, the Hopkinsville Goblins, and ancient remnants of something hidden beneath the mountains? And if the floods really did push these beings into the open, what else might be living under Appalachia that we were never meant to see?
