We explore the acting performances of Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo and Jake Gyllenhall, examining what they bring to the table with their unique approaches, as well as going under the magnifying glass and David Fincher's directing style and ask the questions... is he an auteur filmmaker and was this the film that finally cemented it? With the sad news of Bruce Willis' retirement, Johann and Ed decide to pay tribute by examining his personal passion project, 1991's Hudson Hawk. Whistle a tune, plan a heist and prepare for looney tunes antics with this multi tonal hot mess of a project. Known for its troubled production due to the constant changes by the star himself, clashes with the director, producer and walk offs with fellow actors, it made for at least a 'unique' experience. So come along and face the many varieties of villains in this caper. Now... where is my cappuccino?

On the latest episode of the 'Not So Trash Reviews', Johann is joined by Post Production Sound Engineer William Peter Henley to use their combined knowledge of sound to audibly examine the 2012 film 'Berberian Sound Studio' by Peter Strickland. It is time to look up at the stars with this special lost episode of The Trash Tapes! This time, Johann and Ed explore the 1982 surrealist sci fi, Xtro! We examine everything from its gore, its surrealism, its goofiness, its full blown nihilism and also just how wonderfully Middle Class British it all is... oh, and it has clowns, cocoons, body horror, and the weirdest melting alien roaming the countryside. The season of love is over and so in the latest episode of the 'Not So Trash Reviews', Johann is joined by fellow Cinephile Eliza Russo to examine the 2016 film 'The Love Witch'. Written, Directed, Produced and Art Directed by Anna Biller, this movie appears to be a sexploitation film on its surface but has a lot to explore about cult mentality, fragile egos and a full deconstruction of the male gaze. But will the film's love take hold? Grab your potions and get ready to dissect this feminist sexy picture.

Welcome to the pilot episode of a new show under The Trash Tapes network, the 'Not So Trash Reviews'! Johann will be reviewing indie darlings. cult cinema and misunderstood gems with different guests within the film community, producing a theoretical deep dive into why these films are so unique.
On this episode, Johann is joined by Scriptwriter and Cine-Lit Podcast host Adam Marsh to examine the 1978 Ozploitation film 'Patrick', a movie about a coma patient causing havoc through the power of telekinesis. While the premise may seem schlocky, we explore how Richard Franklin's underrated film is actually a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock. It is time to grab the doctor robes and prepare the typewriters as we prepare to examine 'Patrick'.
