As Jay finishes up his 31 Days of Horror articles, he found a cool series on Epix called Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror. It is a great and quick history of horror movies through the years. Shua has been working on his art by watching videos of how to draw Mid Century art. It’s always good to practice your craft.

31 Days of Horror

This week Jay continues his October horror movie articles on RetroZap.com. Check out his insights on The House on Sorority Row, Leprechaun, Cabin Fever, The Purge, Ghosts of Mars, Saw, Get Out, and Halloween Ends.

Enjoy Elvira!

You may not know who Cassandra Peterson is, but surely you’ve heard of Elvira. That’s the persona that Peterson created to host a show called Movie Macabre in 1981. But she built up to that career as Mistress of the Dark. Modeling, Dancing, singing in an Italian rock band, even dating Elvis. But once Elvira was out of the box, there was no stopping her. TV, comics, movies, even hosting Halloween parties at public events. She has owned the character and capitalized on the success. So before Halloween, let’s celebrate Elvira!

Have you experienced Elvira? Which of her projects were your favorites? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Unpleasant Dreams” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to [email protected]

Shua is reading a truly unique and well-done biography about Charles Schulz called Funny Things. What makes it different is that it’s all done in the form of comic strips drawn in the style of Peanuts. It really gives you a sense of Schulz’s life and what inspired him to draw his characters. Jay has been rewatching Star Trek Lower Decks. It’s such a well done, creative Trek show that we highly recommend.

31 Days of Horror

This week Jay continues his October horror movie articles on RetroZap.com. Check out his insights on The Meg, The Legend of Boggy Creek, Shaun of the Dead, The Masque of the Red Death, Hollow Man, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Sssssss.

Enjoy Movies!

Do you remember the first time you saw Beetlejuice? When it was released in 1988, it was completely unlike anything we’d seen. It was only the second movie for Tim Burton, but it set a feeling for Burton’s films after this. Originally it was intended to be a very dark tale, but with Keaton’s and Burton’s ideas it turned out to be a classic comedic story. Join us as we peruse the Handbook for the Recently Diseased on Enjoy Stuff.

Enjoy TV!

30 years Chris Carter gave us a really groundbreaking TV series on the fledgling TV network Fox. It was a series that spotlighted the supernatural and mystery in a way that fit so well for the 90s. It lasted 9 seasons, 2 movies in the theater, and another 2 extra seasons years later. It featured Agents Mulder and Scully as they investigated aliens, weird stuff, and government conspiracies. It also inspired generations of women to pursue careers in science, technology, math, law enforcement, and more. Listen to Jay and Shua look back at the history and influence of the X Files.

Were you a fan of the X Files? What was your favorite storyline? First person that emails me with the subject line, “I want to believe” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to [email protected]

Enjoy Games!

Shua is on a Potter kick right now from all his date nights at the Alamo with his wife. So he found a playlist on Spotify that includes music from the soundtracks of all eight movies. It’s magical! Jay got to see a screening of The Big Lebowski at his local Warehouse Cinema. Their re-release schedules really bring the room together.

Enjoy Movies!

Due to legal issues, lawyers, stolen writing credits, and a variety of other boring behind the scenes issues, we got to see two, yes two, James Bond movies with the most iconic Bond actors in history. Sean Connery and Roger Moore both revise the the role in Never Say Never Again and Octopussy.

We break them both down, compare them with our own personal feelings about them, and share some of the history of how they both got made.

What we’re Enjoying

In anticipation of this week’s show, Jay found an old 1935 pirate movie starring Erol Flynn called Captain Blood. It was a totally fun pirate story with a lot of action and adventure that is still enjoyable to watch. You can still see it too. Listen in to hear how. Shua checked out Netflix’s new anime adaptation of a pirate story called One Piece. The live action does a great job of using the weird, anime-like characteristics of the original cartoon.

Enjoy Pirates!

This week we celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day! In addition to annoying all your friends and family members by sounding like Long John Silver, you can also indulge in some pirate movies.

Pirates have been characters in movies almost since the beginning of cinema. The adventure of swashbuckling adventurers made for an exciting movie-going experience for everyone. So we got to see Errol Flynn swinging from ship to ship and Kevin Kline singing very old Gilbert and Sullivan tunes and even Bob Hope as the buccaneer hero.

Of course we also get classics like Disney classics Treasure Island, Peter Pan, and Pirates of the Caribbean and kept the genre going. There are so many more great adventures we can enjoy and some of them are on TV like Our Flag Means Death and One Piece. Plus we can even play video games like Broadsides and the Monkey Island Series. So long live pirates! (At least the harmless kind)

Do you want to maraud and embezzle and even hijack? Well, drink up me hearties, yo ho! First person that emails me with the subject line, “A pirate's life for me” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to [email protected]

Gotta sing, gotta dance! This week we look at a bunch of different musicals that the guys have Enjoyed through the years. It’s a rare Enjoy Stuff look at the stage with the evolution of musicals through the years and how they’ve changed. Plus, why Shua would ever be cast as Big Jule. No understudies needed for this week’s Enjoy Stuff!

The neon lights are bright and magic is in the air! Jay and Shua look back at decades of fun musicals.

What we’re Enjoying

Shua and his wife have been revisiting the Harry Potter movies. The timing was right for them to even see a few at the Alamo Drafthouse with a pack of Potterheads. Jay is enjoying the new Disney+ series Ahsoka. While there are many aspects of the show that might go over the heads of anyone unfamiliar with Rebels or Clone Wars, it’s still got some pretty cool stuff.

Sci-Fi Saturdays/MCU Location Scout

Jay has been updating a ton of locations from Marvel TV and movies, including all the (now canon) Spider-Man films. Play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com. And stay tuned for some upcoming 31 Days of Horror film articles from Sci-Fi Saturdays on Retrozap.com. Plus, you can tune in to  SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Loki series.

Enjoy Musicals!

We may not live in a multiverse where we break out in song every time we get emotional about something, but we can sure visit one every now and then. Musicals have been around for more than 100 years. Gilbert and Sullivan gave us some of the first great ones in the format we know today, but they have expanded and evolved throughout the years.

Certainly too many to include in one episode of Enjoy Stuff, but Jay and Shua remember some of the biggest and most influential. Artists like Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, and Andrew Lloyd Weber have written sprawling epics that have played on Broadway for decades and spawned movies, (and a lot of High School adaptations). Have fun with us as we revisit stories of watching and even participating in some musicals this week.

Are you interested in musicals? Ever played a part in one? First person that emails me with the subject line, “I loved it! It was better than Cats” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. Come talk to us in the Discord channel or send us an email to [email protected]
