Sangoma

While reclaiming one's true identity, it can be helpful look at the similarities within the Pan African and indigenous traditions for clarity. One beautiful tradition that originated with the Bantu people from Swaziland  is the Sangoma tradition.

Typically the diviners of this tradition are known to use bones to understand what the energies are telling them.  This tradition, like so many Afrakan or indigenous traditions, respect the power of the feminine in that it is typically ran by women. So great are their prowess, the women were seen as the protectors of the village.  Though men are certainly allowed to be diviners in this tradition.

The Sangoma are master astral travelers.  This is because much of spiritual work and answers comes from the being possessed by the lidlotis or  honored ancestors.

The interesting thing about their connection to the lidlotis is that these ancestors are not necessarily from their own blood line but it is whichever lidlotis wants to work with them.

This is a practice to take note because not every relative that died wants the responsibility of an honored ancestor and do not want work with you.  You may be giving libations and praying to an Aunt that just likes to smoke and will not tell you a thing.

Sankofa

 In the process of evolution, studying where one comes from is necessary. Without this discipline, one is doomed to repeat the same mistake over and over again.

The concept of Sankofa was birthed from the Akan tradition and highlights this idea.  Sankofa means to go back and fetch it.

The symbol is of a bird that is looking back but moving forward.  This symbol really speaks to going back to the traditions of African thought and retrieving the highest ideals of our legacy in order evolve to the next step.

Because of this, it is important to scrutinize where our ancestors left off and  look at those ideals  to see what can work for you and what you  should let go.

Osaiyan -Father of Herbs

This heat is either used for energy so that your body can maintain its balance or it is converted into fat storage for use at a different time.  

 What does calories have to do with the Orisha Osaiyan and herbal magic? The transformation of solid food into calories is an alchemical process n the body and Osaiyan represents the alchemical process.

Our food is always an offering back to us from Osaiyan.  This is why the science of charging the food before you eat was developed. This is a simple way you can spiritize your daily life.  You can also charge the food while you are cooking it. This would likely to increase its deliciousness or decrease it if you are not careful.

 In the Pataki that the Chief shared, there were many Osaiyans with different number of legs which brings to mind the way the roots of trees have varying number of visible roots.

Your own personal guardian angel is here to bring you to your highest ideal.  Your guardian angel is your ori.  Who and what you are comes from the ori.  Your ori is you as the Supreme Being.

To walk as God on the planet, consider the sun.  It offers its light every new dawning which enables organisms to live and reproduce.  It asks for nothing in return.  But only fertile soil produces the fruit that we as fleshly and spiritual beings enjoy.

Maybe if you keep this example in mind when speaking to your guardian angel, you will see that an unconditional service to humanity reflects the divinity one strives for.

Study yourself and there you will find the kingdom of heaven.  Or a vicious state of hell but the point is to look within.
