“Today, live like you wannaLet yesterday burn and throw it in a fireLive like a warrior”
— Matisyahu, Live Like a Warrior
Dear Friends,
It’s nearly a new year. Sending so much Love to everyone and wishing all of you boundless blessings, thanksgiving, and closeness with God in 2026.
Today I’m sharing another video exploring the ever-present possibility of spiritual freedom.
The suggestion is that our ordinary experience takes place within a relatively narrow bandwidth of what is truly available to us. By exploring non-ordinary modes of experience here and now, we can ‘snap out’ of the heaviness of over-habituated normalcy and open to an all-present enchanted wonderland of wowness. This wonderland is not in any way apart from your everyday experience: It is your everyday experience seen with new eyes, fresh vision, the eyes of a babe or a holy fool.
May we open to a wider range of experiential modes, so as to discover non-separation. May this discovery lead us to end all war and set the kids free! May we live from wholeness in joyous celebration together! May we love all and see no enemies! May we gift our children and grandchildren the harmonious world of co-creative beauty that they deserve! Amen.
Quotes from the video:
“There is an ever-present possibility of forgetting everything you think you know. Enlightenment has been described as forgetting everything, returning to pure beginner mind, pure infant mind — the blank slate in a sense.”
“You couldn’t have the leaf without the tree, and you couldn’t have the tree without the earth, and you couldn’t have the earth without the sun, and you couldn’t have the sun without the galaxy, and you couldn’t have the galaxy without the cosmos. And you couldn’t have the cosmos without whatever primordial infinite force gave rise to all this. So to truly say what a leaf is, you would have to say what the totality is. Every seeming thing is a function of the whole.”
“It cannot be understood in the sense of encapsulating it within a theory, a model, or a belief system. It will never fit in any fixed symbolic meaning structure. It’s too close. It’s too slippery. It’s too all-encompassing. We are it.”
“If you look closely at any moment, that moment is completely fresh. You’ve never seen that moment before. You don’t know what that moment is. That moment is presenting an entirely fresh array of attributes and information that has never appeared in that precise formulation before. And that’s true now, and now, and now.”
“Relinquishing all of these definitions actually starts to give rise to this primordial sense of moving closer to the truth. Moving closer to home. There’s a sense of coming home. There’s a sense of, ‘Oh wow… I was really knotted up in all these fixed definitions.’”
“From the earliest days we were taught, ‘That’s a cat. That’s a ball. That’s you. That’s me.’ That’s where the hypnosis began, because we started to believe that just because we’ve labeled something, we know what it is. The labels themselves imply a discrete, separable, definable entity. And so language quietly installs an entire cosmology inside us. In that sense, we’ve all been duped by language.”
“I’m giving back all my maps and models and opinions — even my most tightly held political opinions. I’m literally tossing those in the bonfire. I’m burning away all my most primordial ideas about who I am and what life is. Just seeing what it’s like to burn it all down. And then asking: what remains?”
“You’ve never seen your children before. You’ve never seen your wife before. You’ve never seen your life before. Let it be new. Let it be fresh, because it is. You’re under no obligation to be the person you were five seconds ago. There is an incredible simplicity available right here when we relinquish all definitions and just let this be as it already is.”
Presently I feel that there is no ‘final enlightenment,’ but rather a never-ending enlighten-ing, as life opens forevermore into new echelons of its revelation.
