  • 57. Uncovering Your Type as a Corporate Leader with Sheila Frierson [On-Air Typing Session]

My guest today is Sheila Frierson, President North America Employee Share Plans at Computershare, a global financial services company and Founder of Liberate Collective, a collective of women from diverse backgrounds on a journey to liberate each other from that which holds us back.

Inside this week's episode, Sheila was willing to share her Enneagram typing session with you here on-air. She took the in-depth Enneagram Institute RHETI assessment that's made up of 144 questions to get more of an accurate picture than can sometimes come from free quizzes alone.

When you listen in you'll hear us go through what resonates with her about the top three results:

    • Type 2 - striving to be connected
    • Type 7 - striving to be excited
    • Type 8 - striving to be powerful

And, eventually you'll get to learn about where Sheila lands with her dominant type and how she sees it show up in her leadership style at work.

  • 56. The Difference Between a Type 7 and Type 8

A client of mine had historically thought she was a Type 8, but the more she's learning about the Enneagram the more she's realizing she may actually be a Type 7 with a strong Wing 8.

Many of the behaviors of the Type 8 were reflective of her own, but the core motive of a Type 7 was resonating more.

At the end of the day, that's what makes a type a type - the core motive and core fear.

For a Seven, the core desire is to be satisfied, without emotional pain, and with lots of freedom and choices.

For Eights, the core desire is to be strong, powerful, and in control to protect themselves from being vulnerable and taken advantage of in any way.

Sevens tend to be the Idealist Optimist with Eights being the Hard-Nosed Realist.

Both are in the Assertive Stance along the Type 3 and have that forward-thinking, fast-paced energy. Both have a lot of energy to go after what they want, tend to focus on their individual desires, and both resist limits and control of any kind. How they go about that though is a little different.

While Sevens avoid pain and will explain hard situations away or look to escape conflict, Eights accept pain, being more comfortable to confront conflict and difficult situations head on.

While Sevens look for variety, Eights tend to look for intensity.

Both will rebel, but Sevens with a "soft-rebellion" and Eights with a much more direct rebellion.

Sevens value freedom over almost anything else, while Eights value power.

Eights are in the Body Center with a strong gut-reaction. Sevens are in the Head Center with a brilliant and quick mind but will struggle to stay grounded and practical like an Eight.

  • 54. The Difference Between Type 3 and Type 5

Type 3 is known as The Achiever, The Performer, or The Role Model with a “hustle harder” motto who’s core motive is to be desired and seen as successful.

Type 5 is known as The Thinker, The Expert, or The Observer with “I don’t need much, but I need my space” energy and a core driver to be capable, competent and self-sufficient.

The confusion between the them is typically for two reasons: They both rely on thinking but for different reasons and they are both a part of the Competency Triad (along with Type 1) where there’s a value on competency and problem solving - “show me the data, don’t give me the drama.”

There’s also several key differences that can help you gain additional clues along your typing journey. In the mini-training replay from YouTube, you’ll learn about 8 them covering:

    • The drive behind their desire for competency
    • How they experience and present feelings
    • Being in social situations
    • Taking action and getting things done
    • What they’re hiding
    • What stresses them
    • Core coping strategy
    • What burn out looks like

  • 52. The Difference Between Type 2 and Type 3

Both Type 2 and Type 3 are in the Feeling/Heart Center of Intelligence where they have the common emotional struggle of shame due to their focus on their image and how believe they’re viewed by others.

They typically get their worth based on how good of an image they have...
Twos how helpful and loving they are, and Threes are focused on how successful they look to determine their worth.

Despite several overlapping qualities and the fact they are Wings of one another, there are some key differences that you’ll learn about in this episode to help you gain clarity on which one resonates most as your dominant type.

"Progress is impossible without change; and those that cannot change their minds cannot change anything." - George Bernard Shaw

There are things I've said to myself, to others, and even publicly that, as a learn more how the world works for different people, I no longer believe.  Some of it can be a sign of growth and some of it is down right cringy to hear myself say.

Inside this episode, you'll hear about 6 of those things I regret saying and how you can allow those to fuel your visibility strategy with your own thoughts and opinions even if you "get it wrong."

The Enneagram has been so beneficial in helping me realize some of the auto-pilot opinions I've had about playing big, personal growth, being a single mom, building a personal brand, and recognizing feelings as facts. Listen in to hear about where I started with those beliefs and why I've changed my mind.

Have you ever changed your mind about something you once deeply believed in or thought was true? I'd love to hear your story too - Connect with me over on Instagram and tell me more about it.
