Ensample: The Shipman Experience

Episode 2 of Season 2 continues with Elder Dennis Goosby of Church of God the Bibleway. A former high profile athlete, Elder Goosby speaks about his background in the Apostolic church as well as his experience under his pastor presiding Bishop Ira J McCloud. We talk about his recent health issues and talk music and sports. There is a lot to gain from this episode. Enjoy!!

As we begin season 2, myself and my oldest brother Robert Shipman III take a walk down memory lane with one of our oldest friends Kaleb Cowart. We discuss playing baseball and our development to playing at higher more competitive levels. Kaleb gives advice to younger aspiring ball players and we take time to appreciate some of the most prominent people that led us to the success we had both on and off the baseball field. Enjoy!

Ryan Dull is an example of what you can become if you stay consistent. We began talking offline, and the conversation got so interesting that I went ahead and started recording. We spoke initially about Covid 19 and the effects of the coronavirus on Major League Baseball. We transition into his upbringing and baseball background. He gives us insight on what a draft room looks like and tells us about his experience when getting called up to the big leagues. 

Brooks County High School football is known for 1 thing: Bringing that Hammer! Coach Freeman is widely recognized as a top tier coach in the high school football space with over 200 wins. We discuss his childhood, his influences growing up, the 1994 state championship, the departure from Brooks County after a fiery disagreement with administration, his time coaching away from Brooks County, the return back home in 2008 that resulted in a program turnaround for the ages, the tragedy that is referred to as the "BC3," the 2019 season that led to a state championship appearance, and opportunities that presented themselves since he has been back. We close by digging into the race factor that has ultimately stunted the growth and development of many minority coaches across the board, as well as discussing his thoughts behind the 2020 season and the Inauguration of the Brooks County Athletic Hall of Fame. 

Elder Eli Porter Sr. is a pastor, father, and entrepreneur who is wise well beyond his years. We discuss his upbringing, hardships, transition to Church of God the Bibleway, opening his first business, the impact of Covid 19, and his vision behind bringing back Black Wall Street. 

Garvin Alston Sr. is one of the best people I've met in my life. You would have a hard time finding anyone who dislikes my man "G." Garvin was the 5th black ever to be named a pitching coach in Major League Baseball. We discuss his upbringing, family, his time pitching and coaching in professional baseball, and his son Garvin Alston Jr.
