What happens after you sell your company to a publicly traded one and, in the deal, you take stock in the acquirer? You just invested in the acquirer! The details make all the difference. In today's episode of the Entrepreneur Aligned Podcast, Jarrod goes over a few of the key elements seen in these transactions and some important things to consider.

ABOUT JARROD
Jarrod was born into financial planning and solving financial problems. With his financial advisor father Steve telling stories about finance around the dinner table from an early age, the idea that everyone has a different financial situation was always there. After an early professional career spent in nonprofit and government, Jarrod came back to his roots helping people plan and invest in 2011. Since then, he has worked with individual clients, led internal teams and ultimately became partner and the CEO of Destiny Capital in 2017. With a passion for helping entrepreneurs change the world, Jarrod ultimately oversaw the creation of Entrepreneur Aligned in 2020. With both Destiny Capital and Entrepreneur Aligned, Jarrod leads teams that help people live lives of abundance where money is simply a tool to let everyone be a positive force for the world around them. When he isn't working with the talented teams for EA and DC you can find him chasing his twins, wily trout or a podium spot at an OCR race.

In today's episode of the Entrepreneur Aligned Podcast, Jarrod walks us through the three-step decision making process we here at Entrepreneur Aligned take clients through when they are purchasing their own ski homes. This process works well for any vacation or seasonal-use property, but there are certain steps, locations and seasonal elements that are specific to mountain town ski properties.

What do you focus on in your business and what do you exclude? At Entrepreneur Aligned, we exclude a number of things from our services. We choose to focus on a few keys that actually matter and help our clients live their remarkable lives.

There is a fantastic transition that happens along the way while building personal wealth. You have the option to move from using outside lenders to fund your personal needs to leveraging your own assets. The question is at what level and how do you put the pieces together?

We will all exit our business someday. The question we need to answer is, "Am I being pushed to exit or pulled into it?" The distinction between the two is entirely about you as the entrepreneur and not about the business itself.
When you are being pushed, it is typically because you feel that you cannot continue with the business as it is. There is something missing which makes continuing not a viable option. A pull exit is when you feel something else pulling you to it. This is a feeling that something else is waiting for you, and you need to go to that something else. A pull exit is by far the better feeling.
Check out this week's episode of the Entrepreneur Aligned Podcast to hear examples of both and learn Jarrod's methodology on how to plan ahead for your business exit in the future.

As an entrepreneur, retirement can start at any time. Retirement does not mean that we should stop working, sit on the couch and do nothing. Retirement is when we prioritize our time beyond generating more personal income. We should be retiring from our business a bit at a time every day and with a clear vision for where we are headed.

You are going to die one day. Death is inevitable for everyone that has ever lived and ever will live. We all intellectually understand that our time is limited, and that we should prepare for that day. So why is planning for that day one of the last things that we want to spend our time and money on? And what does a good estate planning process look like?
If your estate plan is clear, flexible, easy to maintain and fully funded, it ensures that your wishes will be carried out, and remaining family members can focus on your care and celebrating your life.
In this week's episode, Jarrod shares the four keys to a great estate plan. This is not the most fun part of entrepreneur wealth but one that creates tremendous value for those we care about most.

Entrepreneurs have demands on their capital and reserve requirements that most others do not. Thinking about these in concert with personal needs and requirements requires a different approach.
In this week's episode, Jarrod segments capital reserve requirements into the following categories. He goes over why each piece of capital is being held in reserve and provides helpful examples and strategies for each one.
Business
1. Business working capital needed within 90 days
2. Business reserve capital that could be needed in 90-180 days
3. Business reserves needed more than 180 days into the future
Personal
1. Personal cash needed within 180 days
2. Personal reserves that cover debt and expenses between 180-365 days
3. Known big ticket items needed one-to-three years in the future
The theme of cash and capital reserves for your business and family is to forecast what you will need and match the investments to that need. We do this work with our client families, so please reach out if we can help yours.

In this week's episode, Jarrod dives into a key pillar for entrepreneur wealth... INVESTING AND GROWING WEALTH!
Entrepreneurs have more complex logistical needs than non business owners. The challenge is that we often need our wealth to meet a number of logistical and emotional needs at the same time. These needs can be in conflict, so prioritizing and creating an integrated personal wealth structure is key to ensuring that you meet all of your needs.
Jarrod kicks off the episode with the five logistical needs and four emotional needs that are common for entrepreneurs when it comes to managing capital. Next, he explores some different ways that entrepreneurs can better prioritize and plan ahead with these complex needs in mind.
