Without knowing this principle I would have been ok with paying 25% on $18k

That’s the reason the emphasis is on the car payment. If someone can afford to just focus on one aspect it can be detrimental. We need to look at the terms, the length of the loan by how many total payments.

The reason why I was paying the 25% was because I wasn’t living by these principles early on, therefore I had poor credit. That results in being in a position of a risky credit applicant.
