Time to Step Up in 2020

Keep working hard, keep improving, keep looking to do better.

As another year ends and we are all moving forward, some will want to Step Up further. We all know areas we can do better and make this the year to see how you can improve those said areas. You have no need to share your weaknesses, what’s the point in that, we all have problems, so it’s even.

You be the one to keep changing and Stepping Up to improve, via books 📚 and research, share that, not your problems. Only you can sort your problems.

You share solutions to problems.

Designers 🆚 Commercially driven design.

It was great watching two experiences of Carrol Shellby and Frank Stephenson, how they started, some of their philosophies and seeing their approach to designing product mainly automotive.

Ultimately they both ended up thinking commercially, via understanding the engineering contribution to make it better, faster and can it be done in such a way?

It’s important for profit.

Or you’ll end up hearing the phrase;

“It’s over engineered. Let’s try this way.”

So often you come across designed to fail.

Why?

Sell more units or servicing/aftermarket profit.

The straight-lines, sharp angles and the strength for longevity, seems to be returning to brands. Look at the Tesla Pick-up Truck, it’s built to last and already the electrics motor, skateboard 🛹 chassis has far less engineering parts to make it very competitive (profitable).

Is this more the future holds and is this really what design is, foreseeing a vision of what is coming down the track?

Media ‘pipes’ hit them all to build brand.

Voice and listening to understand what people want, and then deliver the content. With the platforms you need to understand what they are about, it’s a case of doing and put it out to the masses or should be the listening, watching, reading audience. Just do it.

Post and build brand.

‘Stick to your own vision and mission, don’t look at competition, stick to work and be smart, make decisions, create your own thing, take chances, check the odds, just make the decision.

Money is rarely wrong.

Become indifferent to taking risks.

Create an I intellectual challenge and people will respond....

Just thought I would share this FT article I found interesting and my subsequent interpretation with my social media post. Having pitched product and looked for investors/VC it’s a huge number of factors at play.

But you know what, you just keep doing, keep believing and horn your belief.

Pitching to investors, then waving hands ‘might’ work.

Though style, charisma and gesticulations, rarely wins, when it’s against, due diligence containing substance.

You’ll kid them some of the time or you maybe a Svengali, as they say. Ultimately everybody is different, and receptive for different reasons.

Pitching for #VC is very much keep jab, jab, jabbing and eventually the planets will align.

Just as with everything else;

“One mans food, is another mans poison.”

Keep the belief, Keep pitching.
