Willie Jackson is an amazing human being.  I’m not going to sugar coat it.

The first time I heard Willie Jackson speak, I was blown away.  I was watching the film, I’m Fine Thanks and heard his story.  I started following him and the things he’s gone on to write and say are incredible.  He understands business and doing work that matters in a way that I think is truly incredible.

I could spend 20 minutes writing and barely come up with things he says on the fly.  I expect this to be one of the most quotable chats we’ve ever had on the Entrepreneurs and Coffee podcast.

I can say with full honesty and transparency that I feel that Willie Jackson has done and will continue to do amazing work in our lifetime and the insights you’ll get today, as well as on his blog, will be some of the best advice you’ll ever get on your path as an entrepreneur.

I love the book Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell.  I had the fortune of reading it for the first time on vacation with my wife and my parents.  I do most of my thinking and planning by getting away from my normal location and routine and this was no different.  You see, in Outliers, Gladwell says you can achieve mastery in about 10,000 hours of effort.  I slightly disagree, I think that you don’t need the full 10k.  You can be dangerous with around 80% master, enough to do some serious damage, in far less time.

But 10 thousand hours?  That’s some serious consistency.  That’s Bill Gates breaking into computer labs and skipping classes to learn programming not once or twice, but every day for YEARS.

You don’t get consistency like that by working 15 different jobs in 10 years or getting a new hobby every January.  You buckle down and do one thing for a decade.  If people don’t say you’re obsessed or think you’re crazy about whatever you’re into, you’re not deep enough yet.
