Welcome to Episode 10 of MIND BODY LIFE with Frederick Entenmann. Frederick discusses ‘winning the game of Life after Sport and preparing elite athletes in transitioning for life after sport.’
“On average, a successful transition will take between 2 to 3 years; an unsuccessful one can last a lifetime! This may seem like a long time, but if you compare it to the time it takes to transition from a young aspiring athlete to an elite level professional competitor – usually 10 years – it is very manageable. The trick is knowing an athletes destination;( what sort of life are you aspiring to). As a professional athlete, the reason it takes so long is because you are adapting to massive changes in your life;
· Career
· Financial
· Relationships
· Physical
· Mental
“For most people, a significant change in one of these areas would take time to adjust to, whereas pro athletes are often facing changes in every area all at once. Prioritizing which 1 to 2 areas that are most important can speed up the transition process and this is specifically how I help athletes avoid that overwhelming feeling, because all can be made easier by planning and taking action during an athlete’s sporting career to ensure that smooth transition from the sports bubble into real life.”
