- EP 039 Tom Cobin: DEBUNKING MYTHS ABOUT SPEAKING
Tom Cobin was behind the scenes for 10 years, and film studios filled roles as varied as can be before deciding to switch gears and go on camera. He spent time as an investigative reporter, anchor, and weathercaster. Just two years into his on-air career, Tom became the first journalist to ever win to Edward R. Murrow Awards. In the same year from the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
Tom’s assignments at WAVY-TV included the Oklahoma City bombing in April 1995. His hard-hitting investigative reports for “10 On Your Side” were featured nationally several times on The Montel Williams Show.
After nearly 20 years in broadcasting, Tom began a second career, in pharmaceutical sales — winning the highest achievement award at multiple companies. His success has been based on his ability to quickly digest complex information and summarize key points, to deliver engaging, impactful presentations of varying lengths in a wide variety of situations and scenarios. At every company after his first pharmaceutical employer, he has helped elevate the performance of colleagues as a District or National Sales Trainer.
In our conversation, Tom talked about how can we execute public speaking well. He shared his knowledge and insights on beliefs that people knew and gave bits of advice on how to surpass them. We also discuss:
How did Tom come to find his current passion for helping people with presentations?
