More people are choosing the digital nomad lifestyle and because of the pandemic, about 15 million US employees are eagerly embracing this way of working. NUOVO is a Miami-based tech-enabled short-term rental management company that serves this market.

Co-founders, Nico Ortega and his brother started their real estate journey at their father’s real estate development firm in Ecuador. After finishing a successful development of a major, master plan community, the two moved to Miami and nurtured prior real estate relationships.

They started by getting their own apartment, which they furnished, and quickly started partnering and operating five additional apartments for shorter term rentals. Before the pandemic, their company, Nuovo, had 250 units and $8-million in annual revenue, shifting to more revenue management agreements. For property owners, this is a unique way for them to maximize their revenue and have someone manage it.

In this episode, Nico speaks about the difficulties and success of the company, including how their proprietary technology accelerated its success, and how they are unique in the marketplace.
