In the mid 1950's the United States was terrified of Communism but was also coming off of that sweet, sweet World War II high which made the men in power believe they could impose their will on just about anyone. Enter the tiny Central American nation of Guatemala. For half a century, Guatemalans had been growing bananas for an American owned company and wasn't getting much of anything in return. So they decided to have a little capitalism of their own and cut into that company's profits.
