Man is a social animal; we need others in our lives to fulfill the most basic of our needs: acceptance, community, belonging, and love.  These spiritual needs are beyond the physical needs (food, water, shelter) but they can be obtained through the physical realm.  

Fulfill the needs of all the realms of which you are a part: you are an embodied soul.  Be sure to address all your needs.
